  4. Why don't they have to run the pitcher here?
  5. It's like they're being needlessly stubborn.
  6. Loup giving it up against a righty again.
  7. Jesus. What a fucking inning.
  8. Thinking of all those Piazza-led teams that couldn't win in Atlanta and Tomas Nido just hit a go ahead HR.
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: Now THAT was an impressive inning from Eddie Diaz Love the difference between the brothers in back to back posts.
  10. To his credit, Rojas started Nido. What a win.
  11. Why would you leave in Loup to face the righty?
  12. Doh. Baseball book.
  13. Nice to get the win tonight considering we will get shutout tomorrow.

  15. Rojas not having Loup ready. So frustrating.
  16. Didn't get the called strike. Phantom foul tip. Such bad luck.
  17. Omg. How many soft hits.
  18. =HahnSolo post_id=63400 time=1620409630 user_id=63] Rojas's lack of understanding the rule about the interpreter mound visits bothered me. I know in the end it probably didn't make all that much of a difference, but felt like the Cardinals pulled one over on the Mets (and the umpires tbf) while our manager just sat there. Now, I had no idea what the rule was either, but Rojas certainly should have.
  19. Great story! So much to unpack here. 1. Dating a lefty. Awesome. 2. Bad job by Dad. 3. Louisville Slugger makes gloves? 4. Please don't let your better half become a lawyer 5. There is nothing better in the world than playing catch. Adults should do this way more often.
  20. =Ceetar post_id=63013 time=1620157195 user_id=102] some good players do that, others don't. Some just drive the ball to one side anyway, and still succeed. Line drives can be caught be infielders, fly balls can't. That's mainly the difference. It's not a novel thing, the harder you hit it, the less time fielders have to field it, unless you hit it RIGHT AT them, which is why it tends to be better to get a little lift. And even if don't square it up necessarily, a fly ball can land in front of an outfielder for a hit, but no line drives land in front of infielders for hits. And then there's the double play thing. We'll never really know what Chili's day to day process was. But if it doesn't mesh well with the front office, then he shouldn't be there, even if the Mets were 15-2.
  21. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Sure seems like he'd be next to pay the price should things not turn around. I dunno if that makes his whacking any more likely, but you know. there are very few jobs like this in the world, it seems like to not have the absolute best guy there is a terrible waste. This is true. But I guess everyone has a different idea of what a manager's role is, so it's hard to judge who is doing a better job than the next guy. To me, a manager should be good at: 1. In-Game Strategy (substitutions, lineups): Rojas seems bad. Not the worst ever, but not good. 2. Clubhouse Management: I think he's good here. Never heard any complaints about him losing the clubhouse. 3. Just be a smart guy (Stay on top of analytics. Think on the fly. Know your opponent, be creative. Call this the Bobby Valentine intangible.): Rojas seems not quite as sharp as you'd like. 4. Argue with the Umps: When it's not reviewable, go out and get in their face. Demand a huddle/discussion. Ask for help. If you've burned your challenge, go out and demand that they do an umpire review. Show some fire. Most of the time it may not make a difference, but every once in a while, it will. Umpires are human. They should know if they go against you, you're going to get an earful. Also, at the very least, your team can see you are competing and not just rolling over. 5. Be Good with the Press: Rojas is just ok. 6. Don't be a creepy sexual predator: New criteria. Added after the Calloway era.
  22. =Ceetar post_id=62986 time=1620146094 user_id=102] quotes from his hiring. I haven't found one since. “For me, trying to hit the ball in the air doesn't work,” Davis told The Athletic in his first spring training with the Mets in 2019. “With the way pitchers are pitching you these days or changing the way they pitch you, that might work for a while, but what happens when it stops working? To me, a line drive is always the objective of a swing — trying to hit the ball hard, trying to square the ball up with a line drive. You allow yourself for misses.

I think so too, but we were probably saying the same thing about Jason Bay. There's a middle infielder whose production dropped off a cliff after a move from Cleveland to Flushing that comes to mind too.
  24. What was Chili's philosophy anyway? Going oppo and using the whole field is definitely a philosophy I stand behind.
  25. Of course Rojas goes to his long guy so we give away an AB. Rather than go to a one out guy and PH for him. I guess we have a short bench. But man. He just does not inspire any confidence.
