Last year I was able to listen to Buffalo games at 1520 AM on my car radio. I hope they will be broadcast on the same station this year. There are many prospects on that team who we will be hoping to see in the majors soon. In case you're wondering, the announcers aren't on that list. If you have the radio frequencies for the other farm teams, please post them. Thanks, Later
The only odd named team I played for was in Babe Ruth baseball. It was called "El Toro Bravo", named after its sponsor, a beer sold in bodegas all over the city. Not quite a pawnshop, but still eye-catching. The team was mostly made up of players from DeWitt Clinton and other Bronx high schools. The team could really stroke. It hit like we were playing slo-pitch softball. There were always lots of scouts in the stands to watch Al Kantrowitz(catcher), Pete Sulis (3B) and Lou Leonardi (SS) hit. They were offered contracts, but decided to go on to college. I lost track of them. The only guy who made the majors was one of the infielders (name escapes me*) who played for Minnesota. The only pitcher who gave us trouble was George Lazerique (the ex A's pitcher). He threw a slow curve that drove us nutz. Later *EDIT: The guy was Danny Monzon
Wifey and I both liked it. She thought it was the best movie she saw all year. The (Oscar nominated) production design was excellent. It made us feel like were were in the London of that era. The script was witty as well as well written, and the two leads (as well as the final disclosure) set us up for (a) sequel(s) I wouldn't want to miss. I would have liked to have been able to have voted it a top score of "7" as in percent solution. Later
As they used to say in Ebbets field, DiMaggio made the tough catches look easy. Mays made the easy catches look tough. And Duke just made the fucking catches. Later
Just heard a post game interview in which David Wright said that seeing Johnson (and hitting him well) about a week ago in ST helped the Mets yesterday. Jerry had Santana pitch in a split squad game just so that the Marlins wouldn't see him before yesterday's opener. Whether or not you think that decision had anything to do with yesterday's result, you can't argue with the results. Later

That was the tie-breaker. Then again, he's a Gold Glove winner. That kind of stuff is expected. Let's see him do it again. Later
Haven't see any mention of whether there will be a tribute/ example/photos of some of the banners from the early Banner Days. Please check it out and let us know. Thanks, Later
Hey, don't be so harsh on the writer. He gave us something. He told us Jeter wears knee- length underwear. And that is something that will be long remembered (and referred to) by present and future CPF-ers. Later
Mets fans aren't the only folks questioning general managerial decisions at cut-down time. So are the A's .... players: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/big_league_stew/post/Cust-angry-after-demotion-Chavez-bewildered-by-?urn=mlb,231977 Later
His brother, Peter, has stuck to basketball reporting. And he has made the hoops hall of fame doing it. Peter and I have exchanged correspondence, holiday greetings, emails, etc. for years, but the topic of his brother has never come up. Later

Since there was no IGT for today's game, I guess this can go here. This is the second recent game in which GMJ didn't catch an apparently catchable fly ball that led to trouble. For those not following the game, neither GMJ (CF)or Pagan (RF) went for a ball that fell between them for a hit. it led to a grand slam. It is the responsibility of the CF to take charge on plays like that. In the last game Pelfrey pitched (yesterday?), he let a fly ball bounce off his BODY trying for a basket catch (why a basket catch? He misjudged it in the first place.) that allowed two runs to score and kept the inning alive. I can't believe he's still here (and Fernando isn't). Later
Catcher Vance Wilson exercised an out clause in his contract and retired, reports Bob Dutton of the Kansas City Star. Perhaps he'll move on to a coaching gig. Wilson, 37, hit .270/.342/.461 in 229 Double A plate appearances for the Royals' affiliate last year after missing two years with a pair of elbow surgeries. He played eight seasons for the Mets and Tigers, earning about $4.9MM along the way. 37? It seems only yesterday he was backing up Mike Piazza. Later

I wanted Figgy to stick, and it looks like he probably will be lost,on waivers or as a free agent. I realize its not like they've lost a sure fire 25 game winner. But still.... Fuck! Later
