When Ike was brought up , Cris went into a mini-funk for a few games. But after Ike proved he was mortal in his second game, Cris found his stroke again. I wonder is this is a Dorian Grey kind of thing. Later

Rockin' Doc wrote: I have a lawn sculpture in the yard that's a better fielder than Big Papi. Exactly! That's the point I alluded to about a Suzyn Waldmann quote. She once said that " __________ (I forget the player) is a much better fielder than Jason Giambi." So is that lawn sculpture. Jason and Papi both field like Dick Stuart was their boyhood idol. Later

  5. Gwreck wrote: He's been out since last summer after having Tommy John surgery so expect more of the usual "I just did it to recover from injury." IIRC, the rules about such stuff say that if there is a medical reason, the player/ doctor can apply for a waiver to permit the player to use some of the banned substances for medical purposes. But this approval must be granted before the players starts taking them. As for the fertility medication, it may be testosterone-like drug, which is on the banned substance list. And I don't think that it helps heal an injured arm, even thought the player may have injured the arm while, uh, ... practicing. Later

Hoping to spin him to an AL team in a trade? Someone in the front office must have heard a Red Sox announcer say "Carter is a much better fielder than Big Papi".* Later * = if you get the Suzyn Waldmann reference, you listen to too many Yakee sound bites.
  7. Reading Joel Sherman reminds me of the old adage about putting an infinite number of monkeys at an infinite number of typewriters. Later
  8. Nice KTE. This line is a classic: And just to clear up one ugly rumor before we start on the Chicago roster, theres no truth to the one that says if we get Ike into the lineup tonight that the Cubs are therefore required to add someone named Adlai to theirs, or even bring back Shawn Estes or Otis Nixon. Just, uh, watch those "old man" jibes, you young whippersnapper. Later

If Ike is as good as we all hope, and the Mets think, he will be, then I don't care how much the Mets will have to pay him. Or when. Later
  11. Edgy DC wrote: Doesn't waste a lot of keystrokes making his case. I place his age somewhere between 10 - 15. His major reason was Tony using position players for pitchers in a 20 inning game. Wow! I'm convinced. Later
  12. Well, not according to this guy: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2010/4/18/1429586/my-list-of-the-30-best-to-worst His comments make me think he's a Cards fan. But, managerial rankings aside, scroll down to the flow chart about Dusty Baker. That's what caught my eye in the first place. Very funny. Later
  13. Jewish Fan Appreciation Night, when they honored Mike. Unfortunately, nobody checked to find out Mike wasn't Jewish. (Lobbing one up for Fman to knock out of the park.) Other memories... Later
  14. metirish wrote: I suspect we might have gotten better analysis/commentary form Miller and Morgan than we got yesterday. That's not saying much. I like Tiny Tim. As for the other three, I'd rather listen to a sucking chest wound. Later
  15. Many Mets fans are getting ready in case tonight's game goes extra innings and we have to listen to Morgan and Miller. They're putting Dr. Kavorkian's number in their speed dial. I car hear it now: Joe Morgan: "Subtle racist dig mixed with Jeter ball washing, despite Jeter not being on the field tonight. Jon Miller: "Last night's game reminded me of the San Francisco pitching staff" Joe Morgan: "I was in the Hall of Fame you know. To me, a pitcher needs to win games. That's why he's called a pitcher." Jon Miller: "There it goes, deep to left field. I just had a Barry Bonds Flashback. " Joe Morgan: "Jackie Robinson" Jon Miller: "One day Bonds will be in the Hall with Robinson." Later
