  1. Sean Casey on playing with Chris Carter: "He sat there drinking energy drinks all night, I was afraid of him! I was afraid he was gonna body slam me!" Later
  2. I just visited the Dickie Thon Fan Club website (I've mentioned them before - invitation only to their main boards). The have members from all over Canada, the US and Europe (The guy in Germany is a big Mets fan.). Every year they have a meeting in a different major league city. They meet, greet, party and attend games. This year it was scheduled for Toronto to see that series. Tickets have been bought and hotel and airline reservations have been made. They are mightily pissed. Later

I think the Cubs/Astros game in Milwakee may have been a bigger snafu. At least that was was done under time constraints. This time there's not only plenty of time but also plenty of places to go that might even be more beneficial to the game as a whole than Philly. Problem is those might also be less likely to produce a sell-out leading Bud to take the safety route. Bull dinkey. This is part of a sneaky plot by Selig to bring the DH to National League parks during the regular season. The bastard! Later
  4. After reading that story, the sports guy on WCBS Radio noted that the Mets accused the Phillies of the same thing earlier this year. Did any CPF-ers hear about that? Or was it not made (too) public? Later

Edgy DC wrote: Frayed Knot wrote: I don't know that Queens would be a great place for hockey but Nassau County and its tangled and often corrupt politics has fucked the Islanders over for years by delaying potential projects or tying them up in a myriad of red tape and insider bullshit. You go, Islanders! Trade in the corrupt Republicans of Nassau for the corrupt Democrats of Queens. They'd have to throw in a minor league bureaucrat to even out the deal. Later
  6. soupcan wrote: MLS is outside. Build it in the Iron Triangle - right next to Citi. Guessing that the legal hassles to move out the current owners and tennants would last about as long as it did to do the same in Brooklyn (it seemed to last longer than the Punic Wars), by that time, the Brooklyn arena will be completed. Why bother? I'm against this because it would be a drain on Wilpon money. The next minute, I'm wildly in favor of this, because it might keep Jeff's attention away from the Mets. I'm torn. Help. Later
  7. Since it will be at least two years to build a new arena for the Isles, why not wait for the new Brooklyn arena? Soccer, is that an indoor league? Or are they saying they'd build a specialized outdoor soccer place in Queens? Where? What does "in the area" mean? Later
  8. Valadius wrote: Kevin Millwood's still around? He was last seen running to back up third after throwing a pitch. Later
  9. You can't just look at body type for a pitcher and think "too thin". Pedro Martinez (when he was young), Tim Lincecum and Ron Guidry could fall through a sidewalk subway vent grating. Later
  10. Very funny KTE, highlighted by the allusion to the incestious hyphen. And it was used appropriately, considering the player. Well done. Later
  11. Should have said "update on Tejada". His stats didn't include the 4-4. Later
  12. Don't forget Reuben Tejada. After a 3-23 start when he was sent down, he has been en fuego. He went 4-4 last night. Here are his current stats. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=514913 Later
  13. In the past, I've posted here about putting the team logos on a player's cap as a hologram, so, depending on the angle from which it is viewed, all team logos will be visible. When this came up about Mike, I emailed that suggestion to the Hall. Here is the response I received yesterday: Thank you very much for your note and suggestion. As players from the free agency era enter the Hall of Fame, we will consider many possibilities for their cap logo on their plaque. As with all plaques at the Baseball Hall of Fame, all the teams the player played for are listed. Thank you for your interest in the Baseball Hall of Fame! We hope to see you soon in Cooperstown! Sincerely, Craig Muder Director of Communications National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum Later

  16. After the game, Braden's grandmother said it perfectly - she told A-Rod to "stick it". http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=ApegFeBS72YB40gKQ8velY4RvLYF?slug=jp-bradenperfecto050910 Happy Mothers Day, grandma. Later
  17. I wonder what kinds of stories he could have shared with Moe Berg. (Major leaguer who spied for the OSS in Japan before World War II). Later
  18. If they bring Carter up, it will be a Celebration. Now, shoo from my Buffalo baseball news thread with those cheesey 80's song flashbacks. Begonne I say, ye hijackers! Later
  19. Nice KTE, but I cringed when I saw the thread title. That fucker was poison for the Mets. He is the ultimate jinx. No proof (obviously, how can you prove a jinx?), but its a gut feeling. The Mets had a tough time beating him (they'd knock him out, but his team always seemed to take him off the hook for the loss). Later, when the Mets would be winning a game, and Ralphie would talk about him being in the SF booth (and the camera would focus on him), the game would turn badly from that point. And, whether he was pitching or broadcasting, he always seems to have a smirk on his face. I hope he gets a temporary case of laryngitis and doesn't show up at the ball park during this series. C'mon guys, wipe that smirk off his face. Let's Go Mets! Later
  20. Mets fans own dogs. Yankee fans marry them. I've been joking for years about having a handgun giveaway day at Shea. I now see how successful it might have been. Later
  21. That took too much work not to have earned a BOC. Later
  22. Herb Plews Bud Podbeilan Later
  23. He was probably the most dominant righty pitcher of the era when I first started watching baseball. Comparisons to Seaver in style and stuff are pretty accurate. RIP, Robin. You showed us that guys with girls' names can be tough to hit against. Later
