  2. ESPN radio (Mike and Mike) said that the Twins' closer, Joe Nathan has a labrium tear that may require season-ending surgery. This was later confirmed by Buster Olney. Hmmm, The Mets have lots of relievers and catchers and the Twins need a reliever. I think Omir Santos and Bobby Parnell for Joe Mauer sounds fair, because Mauer hasn't signed a contract extension yet. If I missed it and he has signed one, I'll up the ante to Josh Thole and Parnell for Mauer. No, do not call the guys in the white coats to pay me a visit. This was a prediction of what some of the WFAN callers will be saying today. Later
  3. Has anyone here ever written the rules committee? Did you get a response? This sounds like something that should have been sent to them before now for a ruling (or a rules change). Ben, since you have done the research on this one, do you want to give it a try? Later
  4. The guy at Inside Pitch seems to think that Ratliff has as much potential as any of the other outfield prospects from a standpoint of all-around tools. But he has to show it this year. And he really likes Puello's arm. Later
  5. Carter pinch hit a homer, then hit another in the same inning . Is that considered a pinch hit homer too? Doesn't seem like it should be, but sometimes the scoring rules have weird stuff like this. And, he then went out to play center field in the bottom half of the inning!!! (At least that's what the Yahoo sports box score said) Sounds like Jerry is trying to check out his defense. Thought he was primarily a first baseman who plays some corner outfield. Later
  6. David writes they way his dad used to both write and play Bridge. Very well. Later
  7. Won with your basic ground ball grand slam home run. I love this game! Later
  8. Today's starting lineup is a head scratcher. Manuel has commented during the off season that Santos isn't really good defensively. Some of his quotes made that sound like he's not especially good at handling pitchers. Today's starter was Ollie Perez, who is trying to get his mechanics straightened out. So, why isn't one of the more experienced (major leagues) catchers in there with Ollie? Just askin'. Later
  9. Mets score 14. For those of you who weren't listening, they missed the kick after the first TD. So they had Henry Blanco run for two after the second TD. Later
  10. Other high/ low lights: Ike's hit was off a lefty. Fernando goes yard off Estes. The Nats' left fielder, who seems to make the web gems every time he plays the Mets (Willie Harris?) had two more in the first inning to save several runs - one catch in the corner, one over the wall to save a 3 run dinger. Ike's error means Pelfrey only gave up 3 ER in that inning. The wind is blowing out toward right center. Later
  11. Davis didn't get a hit? Get ridda' da' bum! Later
  12. Don't remember having seen him pitch. But with a mostly sub-90 MPH fastball, his K/IP numbers (over 9) very impressive. Does he have a hard to follow delivery? Later
  13. IMO, it seems to be a chicken/egg thing. Was HGH used at all? Did the problem arise after any use of HGH? Was the thyroid problem there before any use of HGH? Did the doctor check for those problems before giving HGH? Then: Did any use of HGH actually contribute to any worseining of a pre-existing thyroid condition? Can a TUE be granted in such a circumstance? Does he need a TUE if he is no longer taking HGH? I'm not sure any additional tests can answer any of those questions. But I hope whatever ails him can be corrected and he can resume playing as quickly as possible. Later
  14. I traded nine to eleven prospects this offseason, How fucking smart can he be when he can't remember exactly how many prospects he traded in the last four months? Isn't it the GM's job to keep track of such things? Later
  15. Benjamin Grimm wrote: But because it's not going to be you, we're all faced with the dread thought that it might be podcaster SteveJRogers. That thought prompted the need for my wife's 9-1-1 call. But I'm apparently OK now. Later
  16. Edgy DC wrote: That's the photo available. I thought you photoshopped the hats on the newly acquired players before you added them to your roster posts. Hmmm. Things you learn every day. Thanks. Later
  17. Number 6 wrote: I'm a picky, opinionated, and generally ornery fan, and bad announcers drive me bonkers; Fran Healy, for instance, significantly and negatively impacted my enjoyment of Mets baseball. Watching Healy's Mets broadcasts was like eating a perfectly prepared steak while being repeatedly poked in the nuts. That just got you a BOC nomination. And, Fman, that was not a bit too much. Later
  18. Thanks again, Edgy. Thought I read that Livingston pitched for five (!) minor league teams last year. So I can understand your caution not putting him a Mets hat too quickly. But he did pitch well yesterday. Later
