  1. Astronaut Mike Massimino was just on Good Day, New YorK to plug the new I-MAX/ NASA film. He was asked how long he's wanted to be an astronaut and he answered, "1969, man walked on the moon and the Mets won the World Series. Those were the two events that shaped my life". Later
  2. Saw a guy today wearing a Yankee insignia cap. But it was in University of North Carolina blue with a white NY. To paraphrase the name of the bar from Road House, that makes that cap a double douche. Later
  3. As of now (11PM update on WFAN) he's staying on this year, but only has one year remaining on his contract. I wonder if it matters if a manager is on steroids. Or if they even test them for it. Later
  4. Yep. The catch. Later

    Quincy Jets

IIRC it was announced that it was for the self-esteem of the towns. How would your town like to be known as a Class D town? Now they could at least say they were Class A. Later

  7. Whatever the analogy you want to use, I still think the reporters are more abusive with their speculation than the GMS who actually pull the trigger (didn't want to continue the analogy, but that phrase fits) on a deal. Why have the players worrying about a deal while they are still on your team? I'd rather have them playing with a clear head (hold the laughter) until/ if something happens. Later
  8. Well, there are no reports in today's papers of anyone having seen Yadier Molina writhing on the ground in agony. So I guess they went 0-2 in learning stuff yesterday. Later

    You're Cut

Remembering all the injuries last year, the catchers got together and voted knuckleballer R A Dickey off the island. Later
  10. Thanks. I feel a lot better. I still remember the line by Winston Churchill, "Ending a sentence with a preposition is something up with which I will not put." Later
  11. Spring training is for learning new things, right? Maybe they can learn how to get out Ryan Ludwick in a key spot. Or how to make a voodoo doll of Yadier Molina. Later
  12. This reminds me of the mental masturbation "what if?" articles that were written 60 years ago about trading Joe DiMaggio for Ted Williams, so that both players could go to better ballparks for them to hit in. (Sorry for the dangling participle. I usually try to avoid them). Ain't happenin'. But interesting to think about. (dammit. I did it again) Later

I'm going to stop for a moment and think good thoughts about J. Feliciano. I wish him that elusive major league contract some day. Later

    Ka-POW!

In the games I've heard/seen, the announcers have commented that the wind was blowing out. But yesterday, Matthews' shot was to dead center (the wind was blowing out to right) and Bay's homer landed about 75 feet beyond the fence. Wind my ass. I prefer to think the Mets have power. And I'm lovin' every minute of it. Thanks for the chart. LAter
  16. For those of you who didn't see them, let me count the ways: Wright Murphy Matthews Jr. BAY!!!! The first "yea Bay" of the year. Later
  17. Ollie has pitched 4 hitless innings against a Detroit spilt squad. No Ks, walked 2. Scoreless in the sixth. Later
  18. This morning on WFAN, Joe Benigno and Evan Roberts talked to Dr. Christine Resta, a thyroid specialist, about the situation with Jose Reyes. To listen to the full interview, go to WFAN.com. In short, Dr. Resta said, because his thyroid levels are fast, it could make his heart rate increase, even when he is sitting still, So, if you exert yourself, you can put too much strain on the heart. In such cases, she tells her patients to cut back on exerting themselves, at least until your levels get better. In her opinion, based on what she has read and heard, It sounds like he has thyroiditis, which does get better by itself, but, the beginning part, could be as short as a few weeks, but it could be longer and take two months. Dr. Resta says medication will not help thyroiditis, because its like getting a virus in your thyroid, you can only wait for the levels to get better. In men, thyroiditis is typically caused by a virus, which is common, or an auto-immune condition, though diet should not be an issue, though it can be. In her opinion, she has never heard of HGH causing thyroiditis. In the end, she said, If his thyroid is very fast and he really over exerts himself, he could develop palpitations, irregular heartbeat, older people can have heart-attacks, because it really is a strain on the heart, even for younger, healthy people, like Reyes. Dr. Resta said, in most people, it takes three to four weeks before they see better blood levels. Later
  19. Actually, to this point they have been using him as a substitute starter. There is a difference. He has been given his usual warmup time and routine before coming into the games to pitch multiple innings. Relievers are typically given less time to warm up. If they are going to prep him to be a reliever, then they will have start at ground zero - his warmup routine before they do anything else. And, no, I would hope he immediately wouldn't go to pitching every day. But first things first. There are only 4 weeks left. And if his arm doesn't take well to it, stop it immediately. Later
