  1. Did anyone mention A Man and a Woman (1966)? Later
  2. I love the black and white movies of the 30-50s - Sherlock Holmes, Boston Blackie, Charlie Chan, Orson Wells, Fred and Ginger, and those wonderful movies my friends and I called "BWPs" (British War Pictures, but I include Ginga Din in that category). I also liked the monster flicks; the hokey ones (Creature from the Black Lagoon, It Came From Beneath the Sea, The Blob) and the classic ones (Frankenstein, Dracula, King Kong) and the serials (Don Winslow of the Navy, Flash Gordon, Tim Tyler's Luck and Gene Autry's Radio Ranch. I loved TCM and scan the listings for the other cable channels to see when they might be on. Later
  3. A scouting report: (A lot of which we've said in this thread) https://www.amazinavenue.com/2019/11/6/20944012/11-best-mets-minor-league-hitters-i-saw-this-year-8-c-andres-regnaulthttps://www.amazinavenue.com/2019/11/6/20944012/11-best-mets-minor-league-hitters-i-saw-this-year-8-c-andres-regnault Later
  4. Anyone with a family name that is a size for a bottle of Champagne has greatness written all over him. Later
  5. It just won the NYC Indie Awards for: Best Feature Film Best Script Best Director Best Actress Best Actor It is scheduled to be released in November, but no details yet. Vic, have you seen it? Later
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: Ummm, could use a few walks. He had OBPs of .359 and .420 his two prior years. He was trying to show he is better than a highly touted signee, so maybe he was pressing this year. I have full confidence he'll get more selective. Later
  7. My kid finished the season with a slash line of: .292/.328/.489/.817 The other numbers were: 44G 192PA, 178 AB, 26 R, 52 H, 11 2B, 0 3B, 8 HR, 49 RBI, 0-2 SB, 8 BB, 36K. Not bad. Keep it up, kid. Later
  8. The Platinum Award winner at a recent Los Angeles Film Festival, this feature film is about the feelings of family members after the loss of a loved one. It is based on the true story of an Irish - American family from New York. It was produced and directed by Christopher Hall, the son of one of my co-workers. Chris has worked for Spielberg and Scorcese, so he has an excellent pedigree. It has not been released into general distribution yet, but keep a lookout for it. Later
  9. My kid is slashing .280/.311/.487 after 37 games. His 40 RBI lead the team, and his 7 HR tie for the team lead. He is overtaking the "hot prospect" Francisco Alvarez, with whom he shares the catching duties. Francisco is slashing .291/.395/.400 and has 2 HR and 11 RBI in 30 games. Later
  10. Saw Binghamton lose to Hartford 5-2 https://www.milb.com/gameday/rumble-ponhttps://www.milb.com/gameday/rumble-pon ... ame=571983 Saw Binghamton lose to Hartford 5-2 Dunkin Donuts Stadium is new, a few years old. Parking is close and access from the major highway (Rt 84) is easy. The staff is friendly and helpful. It holds 6,500 people, and is filled most nights. Some observations: Catcher Patrick Mazieka looks good. He had two of their 4 hits. He pulled his HR to right and went with the pitch to single to left. Shortstop Andres Gimenez made three plays that would make the year-end highlight reel for any major league club. A lefty hitter, he got a hit off a 94 MPH fastball from a lefty reliever who had just struck out the previous two batters. Pitcher Tony Dibrell is just up from A ball, and entered the game with an 8+ ERA. He tired in the fifth after looking good for 4. Strangely, he was throwing 89 at the beginning of the game, but after he gave up three runs, he pumped it up to 94. Great ballpark, great food (today's specialty was bacon covered munchkins, which would have made my cardiologist cringe and lobster bisque). Great giveaways (a really a top quality hat). Great fun. Only one negative thing, the giveaway program has names and pictures of the players, but no numbers. And their unis don't have the names on the back. Very frustrating. Later
  11. An adoption and an IGT all in one. Nice. Later
  12. He was 1-3 with 2 RBI last night when I checked mid-game. Now the box score isn't there on the minor league baseball site, just the 9-8 final score. Frustrating. Later OE: the box score magically reappeared. He finished 1-3 with a walk.
  13. My kid got three hits the other night and is batting .333 with 3 HR and 14 RBI in 11 games. So, he sat last night (didn't even, gasp, DH). It must be an organizational thing to sit a player who is on a hot streak. Later
  14. After five games for the 4-1 Kingsport Mets (he has played in 4), my kid has a slash line of .526/.550/.895/1.445 which includes 1 double, 2 homers and 9 RBI. Nice start, kid. Later
  15. Andres celebrates his first game in Appalachian League ball with Kingsport by going 3-5 with a dinger and 4 RBI. Later
  16. Good point. I'll bet every one of us has pretended to be Elton at some point in time. And I've also pretended to be Kiki Dee At my company's Holiday Party in December, I told them how fortunate I was to be alive after my surgery earlier in the year. Then I donned funny glasses and karaoke sang "I'm Still Standing". Later
  17. Vic Sage wrote: Shop on the corner Good catch. Technically the Shop Around the Corner -- but you were far closer than I! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033045/https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033045/ It was just on tv the other night. I had never seen it, and when I read the description of the movie, I immediately though of You've Got Mail. Later
  18. Johnny Weismuller and Maureen O'Sullivan. Later
  19. Only one? Teacher's Pet is a comedy and Pajama Game is a musical. And I loved them both. Later
  20. Edgy MD wrote: An excellent entry. Isn't really a collection of pop songs, but certainly a few are there among Queen's hard-rock underscoring. A more difficult call to make is whether it is truly an awful movie. Rather than being a bore, it certainly works despite itself as a goofy farce (the world is saved by a New York Jet, for God's sake), although it's hard to say whether it would even be embraceable as camp without Queen to move things along. Yes. A goofy farce. Well played and a lot of fun. Some memorable lines by the DiLaurentiis Jr.- directed film: 1) The Princess tugging at her pet monkey's leash saying, "Come on Fellini" and 2) "Oh no, not the borer worms" and 3) When asked if she and Flash want to stay on Mongo after they have saved Earth from destruction, Dale Arden replies that she's going back to Earth because,"Things are a little too quiet around here. I'm a New York kind of girl". And yes, Max von Sydow playing Ming the Merciless? I once asked him about that role, and he said that playing it "was delightful". Not just camp, but High Camp. Moving on to answer the question about a sound track better than the movie, I nominate Top Gun. Later
  21. I would have snapped twice in Chavez Ravine. Just to be sure. Later

I posted the same story (2 posts above) from the Daily News, a much more reliable source than the NY Post. (SM=84) I saw the movie today. My own spoiler: (stop reading if you haven't seen it.) Incredible, unbelievable, the result of a severely damaged mind. Does anyone really put mayonnaise on a hot dog? The rest was totally believable. Later

  24. Good news - I'll be seeing it tomorrow at 9AM. Bad news - it is my grandson's 8th birthday "party", and I'll be there with about a dozen of his classmates and friends. I may be too shaken to vote for a while. Later
  25. People at work have talked about this (and quoted it) often, but I've never seen it. Starting to think I will. Later
