  1. Dunkin Donuts Stadium was voted the best AA Ballpark again this year: https://www.courant.com/sports/hc-sp-minor-league-baseball-yard-goats-dunkin-donuts-park-20210610-20210609-wofvtqhobvfudd4qmyt2udzwpa-story.htmlhttps://www.courant.com/sports/hc-sp-minor-league-baseball-yard-goats-dunkin-donuts-park-20210610-20210609-wofvtqhobvfudd4qmyt2udzwpa-story.html Dunkin' Donuts Park has been a huge success since opening, and this vote shows once again how the Yard Goats have connected with the greater Hartford community,” said Ballpark Digest publisher Kevin Reichard. “The Yard Goats story is one of the most successful in all of baseball, and a win this year confirms that status. My daughter is getting tickets for us when Binghamton comes to town and I hope to provide some personal scouting reports. Later

  3. Francisco has moved up from 39 to 21 on the most recent Baseball America top 100 prospects list. Later
  4. Glad to see my kid signed with Gateway (Frontier League) and is hitting .313 after 6 games. Later
  5. Edgy MD wrote: I'm not recommending it, only sharing information. Nothing I've written in any way — and I'm certain no marketing claim the film's producers would make — would suggest that it is trying to "teach" you the "history of India." Not you, Edgy. It sounds like the plot information you shared told me I wouldn't like it. Later
  6. Edgy MD wrote: it makes the film longer than it probably should be and it drains some of the life out of the real burning themes touched on — intra-Indian bigotry, Caste system mindsets, the country's rape culture and the denigrating attitudes that feed it, male privilege, the India-Pakistan partition, yada-yada. Since I took "History of India" in college (the reason I took it made sense to me at the time), I don't think I need to be taught about those things again by a movie. Thanks for the heads up. I'll pass. Later
  7. One of my daughters was on the field hockey team in high school. After watching a few games, I realized the sport only has one rule - when it looks like a team will score, the official blows the whistle and the other team gets the ball. Later
  8. I said one that I'm confident I'll be seeing in the Majors. Third baseman Mark Vientos is on many Mets top 10 prospect lists, but is hovering around the Mendoza line so far this season. And he may be passed by Baty as as third base prospect very soon. To put it another way, none that I see as a sure-fire bet to make it, or adopt. None of the position players on Binghamton have been impressive so far. But I'll give you a "yet" on this. And there may be a pitcher or two who might make it. Later
  9. Edgy MD wrote: That'll put him, Baty, and Mauricio in the same lineup. My daughter is getting tickets for us to see Binghamton (AA) at Hartford in August. I hope to see at least one of them promoted to that level by then. It would keep my streak going for seeing at least one future Met playing in AA ball each time I've gone to one of their games. (From Veras, Vina and Husky, through Ike Davis to Gimemez) There isn't anyone else now playing at Binghamton I'm confident I'll see in the majors. Later
  10. SNY reporting that Alvarez is being promoted to High-A Brooklyn. Later
  11. Edgy MD wrote: Andres was released during camp back in March. I missed that. Too bad. Hitting catchers, with power, are hard to find. The Mets' #1 prospect is a catcher, and the Mets have drafted several other catchers in the last few years (when they had full drafts), and they seem to have bumped my kid off the path. He was kinda' roly-poly and maybe he let his weight go wild during the inactivity of the pandemic. Hope he catches on with another team. sniff Later
  12. He opened with a 4 for 5 at St. Lucie. Of course, he didn't play in the second game (they played a last year draftee at catcher), but he went 1 for 4 in their third game. Later
  13. Haven't seen my kid in any minor league box scores yet. Several catchers the Mets drafted or signed as free agents in the last two years have shown up. I hope he survived the contraction of the minor leagues and subsequent purge of players. Later
  14. He was voted the #27th best prospect in the organization by Prospects1500.com. Regnault has an above average offensive profile at the catcher position. His bat to ball skills and power have served him well thus far in his career. He is limited defensively due to his lack of athleticism and size, making a move to 1B or DH a possibility. He will need to develop behind the plate to get a real chance at the big league level. Later
  15. Just saw on BMFS's thread that Keith Law named him the 19th best prospect on his top 100 list. The lists I've seen project his ML debut in 2023. Later
  16. He's on the top 10 list of catching prospects. https://sports.yahoo.com/mets-francisco-alvarez-cracks-top-142543535.htmlhttps://sports.yahoo.com/mets-francisco-alvarez-cracks-top-142543535.html Later
  17. Agree with the mixed bag/ mostly good comments. I found it interesting that Rebel Wilson was cast as a Nazi since I get the vibes that there are sometimes subtle and not-so-subtle Anti-Semitic tones in many of her performances and interviews. Are they her ideas? The scriptwriters? I'm not sure. Later
  18. The story from the abl website: https://theabl.com.au/news/blue-sox-secure-highly-touted-mets-prospect/https://theabl.com.au/news/blue-sox-secure-highly-touted-mets-prospect/ Later
  19. Edgy MD wrote: Yeah, it was, but I agree with Frayed. It was about selling the cast. Outside of trying to elicit a fist-pumping Oh yeah! when Helen Mirren coolly confessed she was an assassin, it didn't really engage. It didn't engage me, anyhow. But we thought you were "Gooey on the inside. Gooey" Later
  20. A retired CIA agent considered Red (Retired, extremely dangerous) and his old unit are being marked for assassination. He brings together the surviving members of his unit and along with his girl friend, an old friend and and old enemy try to find out why they have been targeted and by whom. They discover the conspiracy reaches to the highest levels of Government. The all-star cast includes Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Richard Dreyfuss, Brian Cox and a cameo by Ernest Borgnine. Director Robert Schwentke balances the line between action thriller, light comedy, and caper film. The movie has been all over TV (pay and free stations) for a while. I was surprised nobody had posted it here. Later
  21. The poster says "Best Foreign Language Film". The official languages of Switzerland are German, French, Italian and Romansh. Which languages are spoken in the film? Later
  22. There is now a checklist that voters must consider: https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/oscars-standards-require-best-picture-003032845.htmlhttps://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/oscars-standards-require-best-picture-003032845.html From Yahoo Entertainment: One very prevalent concern from both sides of the aisle that's emerged, however is that “white male war movies” like 1917 (2019) and Dunkirk (2017) — very necessary, oftentimes very excellent historical documents — would thus be branded cinema-non-grata because of their onscreen lack of diversity. How do you feel about them? Vic? Later
  23. Edgy MD wrote: He could, but I think they're adding a lot of high end prospects who are still way down on the totem pole, just so they can get the supervision of the top development instructors. They added Matthew Allen, and he's only thrown 10 innings outside of high school. I shuddered when he was brought up and one writer said that means they are now eligible to be traded. Nothing in the rules says that, but with Brodie, you never know about prospects. Later
  24. He has been added to the Mets 60 man player pool, so he could be called up this crazy season. Later
  25. Edgy MD wrote: But beyond Covid-19, how do arthouse cinemas survive without the free alternative weekly street tabloid to plug them? Our local arthouse, the Bethel Cinema announced that it has closed permanently. Later
