  1. Many of those early Mets served in the Marine Corps Reserve. It was a way to keep them out of the Viet Nam era Army draft. RIP, Jim Semper Fi. Later
  2. And weather by the iconic weatherman Mr. G, who wasn't there last night because he was being honored for career achievements by a national weathercasting organization. Later
  3. San Fran is still the team that scares me. Later
  4. Sean Manaea 1-2 5.60 Ranger Suarez 11-6 2.89 Game time 6:45PM Time to end the funk. Later
  5. For us folks (like me) who don't get SNY on our cable provider, that is great news. Later
  6. I can still hear how announcers pronounced, or tried to pronounce, some of those names. One pronounced A-mal-uh-fa ta no - throwing in the extra syllable WOR sports announcer Stan Lomax said CAM-uh-lo (instead of Ca-meal-e-o) PAS-kul I'm guessing that Jim Kaat was the last on that list to retire as a player. Fun list. Thanks Later
  7. Sigh. RIP, Jim Later
  8. They were written - by the CPF-ers in the thread dedicated to him here: https://phpbb3.ultimatemets.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=34766 They are from the heart. Later
  9. Seriously? Davey Johnson is given the AI treatment, just like any other passing baseballer? To us, he wasn't just like any other, and I find it demeaning to his legacy. That had no love in it, no humanity. We knew all that, or have read it in other obituaries. He was a real person, and his story deserved to be written by a real person. Later
  10. They said he was a Mets manager, but only said he won two world series as a player? How childish can they be. Who wrote/said that, Michael Kay? Later
  11. Your floppy is still functioning. You are correct, sir. Later
  12. From all-star second baseman, to being the first manager we heard about to use a PC , to the World Championship, he made a mark on the game. RIP Later
  13. He'll be opposed by Brady Singer 12-9 4.08 The Singer Throwing Machine? Later
  14. SNY reporting that "Senga has agreed to be sent to the minors." Good move. Something needs fixing and this will give him a chance to fix whatever it is. Later
  15. =ashie62 post_id=203309 time=1757111373 user_id=90] Catcher Tyler Stephenson is back and he has damaged the Mets before
  16. Vientos always looks like he's having fun out there. Later
  17. Speaking about umpires, there was a big hoo-hah about an illegal bat used by a Houston player in that last game. Apparently it was a two toned bat that didn't meet the strict regs for two - toning. There were "dark spots" because it was well worn, and not because of pine tar or other verboten substance. How desperate are the MFYs to have a hissy fit over something like that? Later
  18. Are Hays and Hayes both in there to confuse the official scorer? Later
  19. But your slogan "ring the gong for Tong" has a better ring to it. (or is that redundant?) Later
  20. 6:40 start time. Later
  21. Whatever the change, it is working well. Later
  22. Would you have thought he was ready after his first nine starts of the season, through which he had a 6.69 ERA? Or would you have brought him up after his appearance before his last one, in which he went 3.2IP 7H 7R 5ER 2BB 4K, raising his season's ERA to 4.50? Since that shaky start to the season, he has a 3.19 ERA and 86 strikeouts over 84 2/3 innings. But when, exactly, would you have said he was "ready" to be brought up before now? For reference, you can check his game to game progress in his thread in the Prospect Forum Later
  23. I wonder who he'll replace. Later
  24. Frayed Knot wrote: The Yanx have lost 3 of 5 this season to Houston with the final game tonight. They did have a recent seven game winning streak [Aug 24 - 30] but none of that had anything to do with the Astros. That's the way it was reported and, as I said, it surprised me. Thanks for clearing that up. Later
