  1. makes sense to sell as many at $869 as possible before lowering the price on anything that doesnt sell at that price.
  2. its the fact that he wasn't a homegrown player that really bothers me. they are booing the guy because of a misperception that they couldn't afford him while ignoring the fact that they only got him in the first place because KC was less able to afford him.
  3. seeing if he can help the Cyclones realize their title dreams?

  5. teach him to play the outfield and he may just find his way into that sad rotation out there.
  6. leaving the bases loaded for two innings in a row isnt good
  7. thrown out at third to end the inning, fucking stupid
  8. Cancel bunts for a bassehit to lead off the inning!
  9. i like beltran batting 2nd, he belongs there at least until church is healthy given the other choices.

    The Big 5

it makes sense though for the mets to have the guys that are next in line for an emergency callup if they need a starter/reliever/outfielder/etc to be sitting 200 miles away in binghamton instead of 1000 miles away in new orleans.
  11. i wouldnt mind signing Lopez to a minor league deal if he's agreeable. he had a decent obp in 2005 and 2006, once hit 23 homers, stole 44 bases in a year, and i think is a decent middle infielder defensively, not a bad guy to have in the syatem incase of emergency.
  12. Seattle, a team with no playoff hopes at all, is still holding Raul Ibanez (36 y/o and a free agent at year's end) and Jarrod Washburn (33 and an overpaid innings-eater), they've got to be considered big losers today.
  13. look at his numbers in his previous 4 years though. if he doesnt cost much the mets could be buying low on a good reliever

i wouldn't attend games either in that heat and humidity at an outdoor stadium. there was a good reason that major league baseball played down there in the spring and not the summer before the marlin-expansion. but this could be about more than immediate attendance- merchandise, tv ratings, and just a general feeling in the fans that management has some willingness to pay to win when the timing is right.

this trade, for florida, might be about more than upgrading the team on the field. Mannny Ramirez has name value and he has a huge contract, maybe management wants to be seen adding, rather than subtracting, this type of guy for once.
  16. Wally: ]Someday soon, spending a day at the ballpark will be the equivalent of yachting, playing croquet or pitching darts on the lawn of the family compound, an ultra-costly diversion enjoyed by the rich and privileged, fantasized about by the rest of us what a load of crap. there are still going to be seats under $20, thats by far cheaper than other sports. wally also decides not to point out that unlike the yankees and many other teams, the mets do, and will continue to, allow outside food into the stadium, a pretty significant cost savings for anyone who cares
  17. Vince Coleman Firecracker wrote: Looks like Cincy's asking for top pitching prospects for Dunn. Don't see the Mets getting him without giving up Niese unless the Reds are big on Kunz or Parnell. for Dunn, i would part with Niese. Dunn is freaking awesome and goes unappreciated by the legion of idiots who think batting average is anywhere near as important as OBP.
  18. if the Mets were to trade for Snell i can't imagine it not costing Niese, and i don't like Snell that much, he has control issues, and to use a guy like that in relief is asking for trouble. besides, arent there enough actual relievers available to not trade for and convert a wild starter in the middle of the year?
  19. 1998: Brian Bohanon from LA, Willie Blair and some other garbage from ARZ?

sorry, but thats manny-speak for "its all about the dough, if boston would show me some resoect and exercise both options now i'd have peace, at least until i'm whining again next july like i do every year"

]It's only 1/3 of one season (approx $7mil) so it's not THAT outrageous. Any team COULD take that on if they thought it was the difference. There's no obligation to assume beyond this season. well, manny has 10/5 rights and there are 2 club options worth 20 million each, i could certainly see him demanding that at least one if not both be execised as a condition of his accepting a deal.

  23. Welcome to the Bronx, Gerald Laird?
  24. ]News reports quoted an unnamed friend of Larson's, who said that Larson was joking around shortly before he fell, hopping on a broken escalator and sliding down its handrail. there goes your buddy's lawsuit. what an ass, great example to set for any kids who happen to be around that a broken escalator makes a great slide!
