  1. ]IOW, the Nats failed to sign pick #9 this year and therefore will get pick "9A" next year - the pick right after 9 but before 10 - in addition to whatever other pick this wonderful season "earns" them (quite possibly #1) and the Yanx will get pick #"28A" on top of their regular pick (effectively making the 1st round 2 picks longer). i don't like that rule. if anything i'd give the team a pick like 2 rounds later...so if your first roundr doesnt sign you get a sandwich pick between the 3rd and 4th rounds, etc. otherwise a team with a the #3 pick ina "weak" year might decide they are best off not signing the guy and getting the 4th pick the next year.
  2. i'm sure pitch counts have their uses... guys coming off the DL, young guys in the minors who have never seen half this many innings before, etc. i think its stupid to impose them on a good starter who is pitching well in a penant race (i'm looking at you pelfrey)
  3. the reccomended amount by mlb based on draft position
  4. homerun pirates on the first pitch. fucking stupid that pelfrey gets stopped at 98 pitches when he hasnt allowed a run or a walk.
  5. ]but at some point, Jerry & Omar have to consider the 25-man roster for September 1, when the post-season roster is set anyone who has been on the roster on/before august 31st is eligible to be on the postseason roster, not the exact 25 man roster that you have on september 1st.
  6. look at pelfrey fielding the ball! a lead off double and the inning is over 2 pitches later!
  7. why are callers crying about the show being broken up??
  8. well its not "mandated" that players who the mlb clubs have control over make the team with those limitations. the recently-retired, independent league guys, and college players would suffice.
  9. Frayed Knot wrote: U.S. loses to Cuba in extras via these new speed-up rules. Drops their record to 1-2 ]Because of the need to carry 12 pitchers on the 23-man roster, thanks to team's mandated pitch counts to satisfy major league organizations, the U.S. entered the tournament with only three backup position players. so not only are the rules stupid but team USA is shooting itself in the foot with its roster decisions.
  10. wow this barely sounds like him (dog), i never realized how much being in-studio as opposed to on the phone changes your voice
  11. i'd rather have seen Francesa go if only one was gonna leave, but this is still half way there.
  12. LOL
  13. Sabathia "physique" is a bit of an issue, but i think less for a pitcher than a position player, David Wells pitched effectively into his 40's with a similiar body.
  14. ]And there will also be a certain MIL pitcher who they probably can't afford on the menu who might deserve more buckets and boatloads. i think both Sabathia and Sheets are free agents, though i expect milwaukee to keep one of them.
  15. yeah easley at 2nd, argenis at ss? or the other way around?
  16. may i suggest Chavez in LF, Murphy shifting to 3B, and Wright taking a nap?
  17. stokes throws a 7 pitch inning. this could be what the doctor ordered for the met bullpen.
  18. maine gets pinch-hit for in the top of the 6th. good move by jerry. now lets see stokes go 4 innings even if he gives up 7 or 8 runs in the process. if i'm the manager here stokes stays in this game until/unless he has the tying run on-deck against him.
  19. muniz was sent down.

Now, you you pull him after five to rest him, or do you let him go and rest the pen? while the main guys in the pen could certainly use some rest, this might be the time to have Stokes throw 3 or 4 innings and save everyone
  21. Church is in St. Lucie taking part in "baseball activities" but the Mets still don't know when he'll participate in a rehab game.
  22. Trot Nixon 2-5 in his first rehab game.

AG/DC wrote: Does anybody believe anymore that some innings are more valuable than others --- some far more valuable? even if some innings are more valuable, i refuse to believe that they are valuable enough that you'd want a guy to give you 70 innings instead if 200, assuming he is going to pitch about as well (if you tell me that a starter with a 4.50 ERA is suddenly going to pitch to a 2.50 because he only has to concentrate on one inning that may be another story)
  24. 4-3 Dodgers is your final!
  25. i'd use my best 5 as starters. but i also wouldnt be against such things as a 4-man rotation and/or the starters throwing in relief on their days off, particulary if they are pretty good and some of important guys in the bullpen (pitchers 6 through 9 lets say) arent that good
