  1. My guess, as of right now: Pete comes back to the Mets with a four year contract, $130 million with one or more opt-outs. And vesting clauses for the fifth and sixth years that could bring the potential total close to the $200 million that Boras appears to want so badly.
  2. Yeah, I disagree on both Carter and Beltran. It's time to put a pause on retired numbers. Let's wait until we can get some perspective on deGrom, and if not him, we'll wait even longer to see what we think, in retrospect, of Lindor and Nimmo and Alonso.
  3. Jesse Winker for the win and maybe the tournament. Last year, the Post's strongest entry was FORCE OF JULY (July 3, 2023), which made it to the Final Four before losing to eventual winner THEY DON'T GOT IT. This year, while LUIS ARM STRONG is still alive in the competition, Vegas oddsmakers are rating HAIR FORCE WON! as the Post's best shot at winning their first championship. The New York Post appears to have found some magic in the word FORCE. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2023/20230703_NYP_02.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2024/20240822_NYP_02.jpg>

  5. I think I mentioned this in another thread not so long ago, but the sheer number of news articles about trade predictions and signing predictions is ridiculous. And the headlines are structured in a way that might make someone think that whatever is being predicted is actually going to happen. If these things were accurate, Vlad Jr. would be a Met by now.
  6. I agree. I think ALONSOMG! is a solid cover and it represents a particularly memorable moment in the season, and in the club's history as well.
  7. But did they? They gave up somebody to get that draft pick. It may just as easily be the Reds who benefit from this transaction.
  8. I agree. The Reds were given a competitive balance pick to use as they see fit to improve their organization. To prevent them from using it to make trades with the teams that have the most talent wouldn't make sense.

  17. Five honorary Schaefer points to whomever can verify the date of his death. (I haven't found it yet.) You can get that sixth Schaefer point if you can also identify the place of death.
  18. I don't think he's above average, but I wouldn't say he's bad. That dropped foul ball in Milwaukee in Game Three looked terrible, but overall I'd say he's done a decent job.
  19. The Mets' GM in 2019 was a former agent who still had his agent shoes on. That's why Pete's debut wasn't delayed.
  20. The Milwaukee Milkmen??? That's a new one for me. Wisconsin is dairy country, of course. I guess they want to remind people that beer isn't the only beverage in the state.
  21. I was thinking the same thing. He probably could have gotten his $200 million after the 2022 season.
  22. I agree with all of the above. And if Boras is really digging in at $200 million (which has been reported, but I'm skeptical) then Pete will be unsigned until March and he still won't get $200 million.
  23. And also... WEIRD! It reminds me of the class pictures from when I was in kindergarten and first grade, when about half of the kids in the photo had their mouths wide open for no obvious reason.
  24. I'm not surprised. By the end of the season, it was clearly Lindor's team. I don't recall if that would have been as obvious back in March or April. But maybe.
