  1. The Mets of the 1980s seemed to be pretty good at that, with the notable exception of Kevin Mitchell. As I recall, in most cases the prospects they kept ended up being better than the ones they traded.
  2. I associate 22 with Mets World Series MVPs. Donn Clendenon in 1969 and Ray Knight in 1986. I therefore had high hopes for Kevin McReynolds in 1988, and Al Leiter in 1999 and 2000. Not so much Michael Tucker in 2006 or Kevin Plawecki in 2015. And Baty would have been a longshot in 2024. Soto seems like a good choice to keep the tradition alive. But if his social media handles include the number 25, that could work too. I'm with Edgy, I don't care what number he wears as long as he's productive in it. What the hell, give him number 8.
  3. When the Mets bought the Syracuse Chiefs, I was glad because I thought it meant that they'd have a permanent Triple-A home, after the bouncing around that they did after they lost Norfolk. Buffalo, New Orleans, Las Vegas... (All NFL cities, by the way. Huh.) I don't know the details of this new arrangement, but I hope it doesn't mean that the Mets can get bounced from Syracuse in favor of another MLB franchise. I was okay when the Mets were in Buffalo, but Las Vegas was too far away and made call-ups a bit more complicated.
  4. https://nypost.com/2024/12/10/sports/juan-soto-may-have-to-clear-expensive-cba-hurdle-to-wear-no-22-with-mets/?utm_campaign=nypost&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=socialJuan Soto may have to clear expensive CBA hurdle to wear Brett Baty's No. 22 as a Met The rule is in Attachment 19 of the current CBA under the uniform regulations section and states: “A Player will not be permitted to change his jersey number even if such request is approved by his Club unless the request was received by the Office of the Commissioner no later than July 31 of the year preceding the championship season in which the jersey number change would take effect.” Two exceptions are listed in the rule that allows a player to change a number after the deadline, one of which is if the player who previously wore the number changes teams. The other is if “the player (or someone on his behalf) purchases the existing finished-goods inventory” with that number. I don't imagine there's a lot of Baty merchandise out there, at least not compared to players like Lindor or Nimmo or Alonso. And I expect Soto can afford it anyway. But I had no idea that this rule existed until now.
  5. So anyway... When is the physical? It seems that Cohen has been openly acknowledging the deal, which you typically don't see until the physical has been completed.
  6. I'm tempted to say which prospects I'd most hate to part with, but I don't really know. I guess I'd be most sorry to see Tong or Williams go, followed by Maurico, but I'm not going to pretend that this is based on anything concrete. I was much more excited about Gilbert a year ago than I am now, but that could change again in the next twelve months. Get back to me in ten years and I'll tell you which ones should have been kept and which ones should have been dealt.
  7. Mets named Juan: Acevedo Berenguer Castillo Centeno Lagares Padilla Samuel Uribe If Soto doesn't become the best of them, things will have gone terribly wrong.
  8. I wonder what it will take to get him. They're likely going to have to dip into their prospect pool, which they've been reluctant to do. I suspect some of them are considered untouchable while others aren't, but we really don't know who falls into which category. The White Sox would likely be interested in Gilbert or Acuna or Williams. I don't know if Baty would tempt them.
  9. Someone who's good at percentage? I don't expect that Nimmo will be the cleanup hitter when Mendoza makes out the lineups.

  11. Yeah, this. Cohen is obviously in spending mode, and he's not likely to be under the luxury threshold any time in the next decade or more. I'm slightly on the optimistic side that Pete will be back.

  13. I think some of the rumors said they'd go $50 million over the best offer. Among other reasons to be glad about this, I'm happy that my Google news feed will no longer have articles about Juan Soto predictions. But there will still be a lot of other crap.
  14. First base or DH, eventually. But probably not until he's on the other side of 30.

  16. Do we think he'll play left field or right field? He's played pretty much the same number of games at each position. Who has a better arm? Soto or Nimmo?
  17. Me neither. So are we looking at an outfield of Nimmo and Taylor and Soto? Does Marte become a DH or does he get traded?

  23. =Centerfield post_id=180426 time=1733533132 user_id=65] It IS bad news. Why would anyone want to trade Seiya Suzuki? It's awful!
  24. I thought this was a new thread and expected bad news when I opened it.
  25. PICCADILLY CIRCUS is one of my favorites. I think I'll vote it at least to the Final Four, although it has a tough potential matchup before then in HAIR FORCE WON!
