  1. =Fman99 post_id=183751 time=1737748616 user_id=86] He took a big shit on the mound in the playoffs as a Met.
  2. I would be very surprised if this led to anything (although I said the same thing about a trade for Robinson Cano) but Max Scherzer reportedly had one of those workout auditions and the Mets were one of the teams that attended. (Others teams said to be there were the Yankees, Dodgers, Blue Jays, Phillies, Braves, Cubs and Red Sox.)
  3. I whiffed on the Padre/Astro.

  5. When I first did this, I tried the Tampa Bay Rays, the team I know least about. And I was able to solve it.
  6. I've been playing it every day. I've never lost, but it's a quick dose of fun anyway. I know it's a home run if you get it on the first swing, which I do often enough, but I don't understand the scoring beyond that.
  7. That's a key distinction. When you get into a swimming pool, you're supposed to drown. You're not supposed to get electrocuted.

  11. From what we've been hearing, which may or may not be accurate, Boras is asking for $91 million over three years, and the Mets are offering about $70. Splitting the difference would mean the Mets are going up by $10 million. It's only about $3 million per year, so maybe that will happen.
  12. I think what CF is saying is that there's no advantage to the Mets in releasing their pivot plans to the public. It certainly makes sense to do that as a bargaining ploy in the private negotiations with Boras and Alonso.
  13. True. I wasn't thinking about the restrictions on players in this example, just on the restrictions on teams and markets.
  14. These artificial constraints are in place because of the desire for teams in places like Pittsburgh and Cincinnati (and others, of course, I'm just limiting myself to two examples here) to be able to compete with New York and Los Angeles. In an entirely free market, I expect that the Pirates and the Reds would relocate to areas where they're currently not allowed to go because of territorial restrictions. The Reds could move to L.A. and the Pirates to the Meadowlands. I'm not saying that's good or bad. I'm not sure what my feelings are here. But that's probably how it would play out. I guess I do think that large metropolitan areas should be able to have multiple teams. Atlanta can probably handle another team. There's room in Philadelphia for the A's to return. I'm not sure I like the idea of Pittsburgh and Cincinnati losing their teams.

  16. 32 years old next month. He had by far his best season last season in San Diego. (.280/.380/.459 with 24 homers.) Has also played for the Rockies, A's, and Rangers. He hit a three-run homer of Max Scherzer at Citi Field in Game One of the 2022 Wild Card Series. He's played 549 big-league games in the outfield, mostly in left field. Plus 219 games at second base, 104 at shortstop, 89 at third base and 72 at first. He's represented, like seemingly everyone else, by Boras. His nickname is "El Patron".
  17. Does this make Pete to the Mets more likely? It's one less alternative for both the player and the team.
  18. The third round of the tenth Tabloid Cover Derby is now complete, and we are down to eight surviving covers. Our "Elite Eight" is more evenly distributed among the three tabloids than ever before, with three covers each from the Daily News and Newsday, and two from the New York Post. In our most lopsided year, 2022, the Daily News had seven of the eight, but the lone exception, Newsday's MISERY, held on to be the winner. All three of Newsday's covers are from the postseason, and all of the remaining postseason covers are from Newsday. The aforementioned MISERY is the only postseason cover to ever win the TCD; 2015's YES-PEDES and 2016's CES BOOM BAH! were both from regular-season games. Another fun fact: Four of the eight remaining covers feature players with their mouths wide open: ALONSOMG! (Pete Alonso), LUIS ARM STRONG (Luis Severino), HAIR FORCE WON! (Jesse Winker) and SUPERMANEA (Sean Manaea). If NO MERCY! had prevailed in its close race against CALIFORNIA DREAMIN', it would have been five of eight. Fourth-round voting will begin tomorrow, January 21. ELITE EIGHT [th]Year[/th][th]Daily News[/th][th]New York Post[/th][th]Newsday[/th] 2015440 2016512 2017314 2018422 2019404 2020422 2021305 2022701 2023314 2024323 [th]Totals[/th]401327 The matchups for the fourth round will be: January 21: CALIFORNIA DREAMIN' (Newsday) vs NO SLEEP TILL THE BRONX (Daily News) January 22: PICCADILLY CIRCUS (Daily News) vs HAIR FORCE WON! 20. I bet he's at the pearly gates hyping Bill Pecota.
  21. Shelby and Marissa, our two original models, were holding out for a raise, so we had to deepen our bench. They eventually caved, and now have to share the spotlight with our newcomers. Stockholm plays hardball!

  24. Darryl Strawberry essentially did that but yeah, it's not something you ever really see.
