  1. Maybe he needs an ankle injury every once in a while to give him a jump start.
  2. I have to say, I'm glad they didn't trade him.
  3. Edgy MD wrote: It's just hard to establish starting catchers at any age. Easier to come up as a backup, and learn to hit while somebody else plays the heavy. Sticking with this, I looked to see how many catchers had enough playing time (and success) in their first season to win the Rookie of the Year award. There have been nine: 1968 Johnny Bench (CIN) 1970 Thurman Munson (NY) 1971 Earl Williams (ATL) 1972 Carlton Fisk (BOS) 1987 Benito Santiago (SD) 1990 Sandy Alomar Jr. (CLE) 1993 Mike Piazza (LA) 2008 Geovany Soto (CHN) 2010 Buster Posey (SF) I don't expect that the Mets will ditch McCann and give the job to Alvarez. I can see a year or two where they overlap, with McCann acting as a mentor, if he's willing.
  4. I just did a Google search on "youngest all-star catcher" and got this: Ivan Rodriguez was the youngest catcher to start an All-Star Game when he was voted to start in 1993. Pudge was 21 years old at the time (born in November 1971). He had been previously named as an alternate the year before in 1992.
  5. He may not be ready for Flushing, but is it too early to ask if he's ready for Syracuse?
  6. James McCann has to be hearing footsteps.
  7. Edgy MD wrote: There actually is a second film, The Spy Behind Home Plate, a documentary by Aviva Kempner. And perhaps I should check that out. I TOTALLY should check that out. My girlfriend's late grandfather (whom I never met) worked with Moe Berg in Italy during the war and was interviewed for that film. If you find it streaming anywhere, please let me know.
  8. Do they have an ETA for him?
  9. I would guess he's destined for St. Lucie this year, assuming there's a minor league season? A rough estimate of his ETA suggests the Mets may be able to start phasing him in as they start phasing James McCann out.
  10. Watched it last weekend. I loved Daveed Diggs' take on Thomas Jefferson.
  11. Never seen Breaking Away. I guess I'll give it a try if I see it in the TV listings. Bad News Bears is a fun little movie but I don't seem to have the same esteem for it that Edgy does. My favorite baseball movie is Bull Durham, but I may have seen it one too many times.
  12. This is the first one I remember: https://storage.googleapis.com/hipcomic/p/fb17a54f773e0016b48d7cf8ad4b7529.jpg> The series didn't last very long. It started out as Dr. Doom and Sub-Mariner, but I think later Namor was replaced with the Red Skull.
  13. I knew who my pick was going to be even before I read the list. R. Lee Ermey. (Who was also in Toy Story. "Where is your honor, you dirtbag!") Funny you included No Time For Sergeants. I watched that for the first time less than twelve hours ago. The strangest thing about Myron McCormick in that movie is how different he looks from when he played Marcia on The Brady Bunch.

I definitely agree with the low placement of Captain Marvel and Dark World. And I also would have the first Iron Man movie high up there, as you did.
  15. Any silent movies stand out for you? I particularly like The Crowd. Also, Sunrise, and The Big Parade. My son really likes The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
  16. Or... somebody that Brodie will trade for an overpaid 39-year-old infielder.
  17. Kirk Douglas is also 103 years old.
  18. Yes, of course it does. The question is, does it matter to you?
  19. Those french-fry sandwiches from Primanti Brothers are way overrated. The one word that best describes them is "awful".
  20. Maybe your monitor is upside down.
  21. The first pair I thought of, before I read your list, was William Powell and Myrna Loy. To me, they're the gold standard and I would have liked it if they had been cast in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner instead of Tracy and Hepburn. https://images.wisconsinhistory.org/700011220003/1122000054-l.jpg>
  22. http://shebloggedbynight.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/duck-soup-8.jpg> How about Groucho Marx and Margaret Dumont?
  23. I gave it a 7. It was fun, and is the rare three-hour movie that doesn't seem overlong.
  24. I gave it three stars. Mildly entertaining.
