And the top of that inning only had two plate appearances, because the runner on second was doubled off.

USA Today seems to give this topic more coverage than anyone else. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2021/01/15/universal-dh-expanded-playoffs/4172704001/MLB rule changes: League still discussing universal DH and expanded playoffs for 2021 season

These puns are getting out of hand.
  5. Benjamin Grimm
That really is a double whammy. Maybe the DH gets to remain through the fifth inning, or the sixth, no matter what, and then goes away if the starter is no longer in the game.

More chum for Syracuse, most likely.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they're waiting on the DH decision too. If there's no DH, then signing Springer marginalizes Dominic Smith and you're therefore improving the team that much less. If there's no DH, maybe LeMahieu is a better fit than Springer.

"Cabernet Conforto" That's a unique name.

I have to admit that I wasn't aware that Stark had been a pen-and-ink sports cartoonist like Bill Gallo. I really only know him from his portraits and caricatures.

I hope Bobby Valentine will be there administering some of the shots.

USA Today is all over the coverage of the 2021 season: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2021/01/12/mlb-fans-spring-training-regular-season-plans/6636390002/New MLB guidelines leave room for fans to attend spring training and regular season games Regular-season tickets are expected to be sold in pods again with seating at least six feet apart I wonder what percentage of the seats can be filled with this arrangement? Maybe close to 50 per cent, depending on the size of the pods? That's a wild guess, I really don't know for sure.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2021/01/11/rob-manfred-mlb-planning-normal-spring-training-start-season/6632573002/Rob Manfred: MLB teams should plan for spring training to start on time, full 162-game season to be played Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred informed clubs Monday that they should be preparing for spring training to start on time in February and to plan on a full 162-game season being played, three people with direct knowledge of the conference call told USA TODAY Sports. MLB does not have the legal right to unilaterally delay the start of the season without approval from the union because of the collective bargaining agreement, and the union made it clear it wouldn't accept anything less than 100% pay for the season.

He kind of implied that he wanted it wrapped up by a certain point in spring training. Start the conversations soon. Get it done. Both with Lindor and Conforto. (I think they'll have to wait and see on Syndergaard though. May have to risk him testing free agency.)

I hate these questions about the Yankees. If I was getting one of those questions, I would say that there are 29 other teams, and the Yankees are one of them.

I joined a little late. Has anyone asked him about contract negotiations yet?

http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/images/2020/brackets_2020_004.png> We're now down to the final round. The New York Post, which started strong in the first round has now been eliminated from the competition. The Post has never won the Tabloid Cover Derby. The final round pits a Daily News cover against one from Newsday, which is looking for its second straight title after the Daily News won in each of the first four years.

I think I had been assuming that Nimmo would go to Cleveland in a Lindor deal, and that would leave us with an outfield of Conforto, Springer, and Smith if no DH. There can be a four-man outfield of the above three and Nimmo, of course. Three of the four hit lefty, though. Maybe Nimmo gets traded for a right-handed outfielder?
