  1. Heyman says it's three years, $100 million. With the opt-out after 2021 as mentioned above.
  2. CBS News reporting that the two teams are the Mets and the Dodgers, and Jon Heyman says that the Mets are expecting a decision within the next 24 hours.
  3. Well, the closest is Joe Torre to Joe Torre. After that, it's Robinson Cano/Luis Rojas. But your guess would have been correct prior to 2020. Then: Rusty Staub/Davey Johnson Rene Rivera/Luis Rojas Jerry Grote/Joe Torre Jerry Koosman/Joe Torre Larry Bowa/Davey Johnson Mike Marshall/Joe Torre Robinson Chirinos/Luis Rojas Felix Millan/Joe Torre Jose Cardenal/Joe Torre Mike Torrez/Davey Johnson Tom Paciorek/Davey Johnson Rusty Staub/Joe Torre Rick Cerone/Mike Cubbage Staub and Johnson were born 427 days apart. Cano and Rojas 416.
  4. I've confirmed that no Mets player has ever been older than his manager. But there have been a few times when an opposing player was older than the Mets manager. Warren Spahn was older than Wes Westrum. Hoyt Wilhelm was older than Gil Hodges and Yogi Berra. Dave Guisti, Manny Mota, Willie McCovey, Vic Davalillo, Lou Brock, Gaylord Perry, Willie Stargell, Woodie Fryman, Phil Niekro, and Jim Kaat were older than Joe Torre. Pete Rose, Tony Perez, and Jerry Koosman were older than Davey Johnson. And Erik Kratz was older than Luis Rojas. Nobody was older than Casey Stengel.
  5. Did he once throw a perfect game?
  6. “Mickey Callaway is fungible,” Kay said. “Jared Porter fungible. But what happens when the first big superstar is uncovered to be that guy? Is he fungible? Are they going to force him out of the sport, or is it going to be a simple slap-on-the-wrist suspension? I wonder, because that's going to happen. That's something I've been wondering too. What happens when it's a superstar player with eight years and $250 million left on his contract?
  7. No, it shouldn't matter to the Angels. I'm just weighing which one behaved the worse in general, not which one was the worse employee.
  8. I think so too. Porter's and Callaway's stories are different. As I mentioned on the first page of this thread, Porter's was worse because of the dick pic and Callaway's was worse because he's married. (Porter, I believe, was divorced at the time he was stalking the female reporter.) Both are very bad, though. Porter got fired. I expect Mickey will too.

  10. (By the way, if you're keeping score at home, both MICKEY MOUTH CLUB and SORRY SEEMS TO BE THE HARDEST WORD were first-round winners in the 2019 Tabloid Cover Derby. )

I'm not at all surprised that some men behave the way we've learned that Mickey has, but I have to say I really don't understand it. I would think that "aggressively creepy" would be an approach that would fail far more often than it succeeds. And even beyond that, how stupid is it that a married man, with two daughters, and in a high profile position, would put his aggressive creepiness in writing? Did he think that this wouldn't eventually come out? I don't know who's worse, Callaway or Porter. At least Callaway didn't send an unsolicited dick pic. Porter's, at the end of his attempted "courtship", seems to me more like a fuck-you sendoff to the woman who spurned him rather than a last-ditch Hail Mary test. But Porter was divorced at the time (I think) so at least infidelity isn't a factor with him. Bah! It doesn't matter which one was worse. Good riddance to both of them! As far as Sandy Alderson, I don't think it's implausible to think that he might not have been able to find out about Jared Porter's incident if it was a one-time thing with one particular woman. But with Mickey it was apparently a pattern of behavior and I think Sandy does have more accountability for that hire.
  12. I'm a little disappointed that Sean Reid-Foley doesn't have the flag of Guam flying under his photo.
  13. I think my enduring memories of Matz will be the great debut against the Reds in 2015, his frequent injuries, and how awful he was in 2020. And that he kinda looks like Joe DiMaggio.
  14. I'm seeing rumors that the Reds are looking to acquire Rosario from the Spiders.
  15. Seven of the ten are in the American League, none in the NL East.

  17. I remember Jon Niese! (I also vividly remember the day he was born.) I just looked him up. He pitched for the Mets, briefly, in 2016 after returning from the Pirates. Nothing in 2017 or 2018, but he pitched in 14 games (13 starts) for Seattle's AAA team in Tacoma in 2019.
  18. There are only two possibilities left here, Lindor Only and Lindor-Bauer. Which means that nobody made the correct prediction.
  19. Lefty Specialist wrote: I dread the thought that this is clearing salary space for Bauer. It might be. But that would be kind of like not eating a grape because you want to save room for a cantaloupe.
  20. My guess for the leftmost Cub is Don Kessinger.
  21. I would guess he's destined for St. Lucie this year, assuming there's a minor league season? A rough estimate of his ETA suggests the Mets may be able to start phasing him in as they start phasing James McCann out.
  22. While I acknowledge Rickey's incredible credentials, the loyalty of my inner eight-year-old goes to Cleon Jones. https://www.tcdb.com/Images/Cards/Baseball/71/71-527Fr.jpg>
  23. Salty Parker?
  24. I think of it as the Cleon Club, but I'm almost sixty.
