  1. https://www.kcci.com/article/mlb-players-to-wear-electronic-tracers-or-face-discipline/35461012MLB players to wear electronic tracers or face discipline This report comes from a TV station in Des Moines, Iowa. Major League Baseball players, on-field staff and non-playing personnel who require access to them at ballparks must wear electronic tracing wristbands from the start of spring training and face discipline for violations. I think this particular rule is going to be ignored by many players: Players, on-field staff and non-playing personnel who require access to them may not during spring training, the season or the postseason go to indoor restaurants, bars, fitness centers, casinos or any indoor gathering of 10 or more people.

  3. That loss in 2006 wouldn't have been so bad if it had been followed up by a championship in 2007. And/or in 2008. But those two seasons made it even worse.
  4. I like "Pearl Milling Company". It's a throwback to an actual name used in the 19th Century. I'd rank it right there with "Cleveland Spiders".

  6. And Alfred Molina is returning to the Spider-Man film franchise to once again play Doctor Octopus.
  7. Murphy being stranded at third after that leadoff triple is seared in my memory as well. That failure to capitalize was deadly. http://leaptoad.com/mets/scorecard_graph.php?game=7552&font=1>
  8. There's no reason to think that that would change. And I agree with Fman. That runner-on-second thing is even stupider than the DH. I'd rather see games end after 12 innings in a tie than to have that stupid rule.
  9. I suppose that if he has a better season than JD Davis (which is possible) he can become something of a regular player.
  10. Switch-hitter turns 30 in May. Is there still going to be a 26-man roster in 2021? Is there going to be room for Villar and Luis Guillorme to be on the active roster at the same time?
  11. https://www.azcentral.com/story/sports/mlb/2021/02/08/mlb-planning-implement-incremental-changes-baseballs-2021/4445628001/MLB slightly deadening ball, adding humidors in five more parks amid HR surge, according to reports Associated Press wrote: Major League Baseball has slightly deadened its baseballs amid a years-long surge in home runs. MLB anticipates the changes will be subtle, and a memo to teams last week cited an independent lab that found the new balls will fly 1 to 2 feet shorter when hit over 375 feet. Five teams also plan to add humidors to their stadiums, raising the total to 10 of 30 MLB stadiums equipped with humidity-controlled storage spaces
  12. The extra-innings runner will return in 2021, as will 7-inning games in doubleheaders. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/30864253/mlb-mlbpa-agree-health-protocols-7-inning-doubleheaders-runners-second-extrasMLB, MLBPA agree to health protocols, 7-inning doubleheaders, runners on second in extras
  13. Yes. Provided they extend Lindor and Conforto.
  14. It's nice to see Larry Tate again! You're right, David White was terrific in that role. Fun fact: the high school principal on Wizards of Waverly Place was named after his character. (The principal's name was "Mr. Laritate")
  15. http://leaptoad.com/mets/clippings/00012.jpg> When I saw the photo that accompanies this article, I noticed Ruby before I noticed Darryl and thought it was Darryl in a silly wig. He really does look like his mom. So it was essentially a toss-up about whether or not the Mets would take Strawberry or Billy Beane with their first draft pick? Wow... That was a dodged bullet. The fact that nobody else took him shows that the Mets evaluated Beane a lot higher than the other teams.
  16. I'd be happy if they sign Odorizzi or Walker and extend Conforto AND Lindor. I would declare this a very successful off-season. (It's already very successful. But it can get even more "successfuller")

  20. Cano, I would suppose.
  21. My biggest concern is about how Gary Cohen would pronounce his first name.

  23. If he can strike ME out, he's pretty darn good! I can imagine the Tabloid Cover Derby entries when Odorizzi has a bad outing.
  24. No COVID there...
  25. The latest I heard is that it's three years, $93 million, with $37 million the first year and then an opt-out. So if Bauer has a great year he'll opt out, and if he sucks he still gets two more years at $28 million each. Good deal for him. http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2021/20210205_NSD_02.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2021/20210205_NYP_02.jpg> http://leaptoad.com/mets/covers/2021/20210205_NYDN_02.jpg>
