This is going to be a long 48 hours for me.

early dinner, heavy on the booze. Oh look at that, you're sleepy and want to turn in early?

Game 3 of the NLDS would be my anniversary if the Mets make it.

All Poolers are celebrating Mrs. JCL's special day? For solidarity's sake, I'm in. It'll be our version of playoff beards.

My lineup?

Bruce is crap against left-handers, and super-crap against Bumgarner (3-23 lifetime). Johnny Lags is much better against left-handers, and just as crap against Bumgarner in a smaller sample, but FAR better defensively than Granderson in center. Granderson contributes a little bit more with the glove and the bat-when-not-hitting than Bruce. My starting outfield is Cespedes-Lagares-Granderson.

Kelly Johnson at second. TJ Rivera at first. The usuals at short and third and catcher. Gives us six righties and three lefties (Noah being one). Duda and Bruce lurk-- along with Cecchini and Ty and Nimmo?-- as PH options/midgame replacements. 9-10 pitchers should be fine, and give us room for many a PH/PR/defensive replacement option.

I have a plan. I like this plan.

That's pretty much our gameplan

Stuff that jumps out at me:

Kelly Johnson hitting a cool .300 in 20 ABs (also stole a base off him!). TJ at first, Kelly at 2nd??
Ty Kelly's all, "eff that, I'm hitting 1.000 against him!". Yep, 1-1 with a walk.
Bruce has the most PAs against Bummy, but is just 3-23 (but does have one of two homers that current Mets have hit against him).
The other homer by a current Met belongs to Rene, who is 2-3 against MB in his career, while Td'A is 0-4.
Yo seems to have hit him hardest, .300/.462/.400 with a double and 3 walks. Need you big time, bro.

Other probable starters:
Asdrubal 3-7, 2 RBI
Reyes 3-9, 2 runs, SB
Grandy 0-3, BB

Moral of the story: he's tough on lefties but this is doable.

For what its worth, Klapisch on the Mets Blog podcast thinks the Mets will beat the Giants, but would be lucky to win a game against the Cubs. Only mentioned Jeter once or twice. Shame on Cerrone for bringing up the "Worst Team Money Could Buy" book over and over.

Not caring about the Cubs yet.

Guys, don't let Angel Pagan beat you.
And try to get their pitcher upset and mentally off his game. Maybe something like the first three guys in the lineup should try to bunt for base hits - something to set off his volatile temper.

Was Hunter Pence bitten by a werewolf recently?

He looks like he was. But I don't think it was recently. If he is going to get into the team picture, he'll have to ask the barber for a trim around the ankles.

Anyway, has anyone noticed that Madison Bumgarner has a girl's first name?

The town where Bumgarner is from near Hickory, North Carolina was/is known colloquially to the locals as 'Bumtown' for the large number of Bumgarners who, for whatever reason, started settling there a century or more ago and where many of their descendants continue to live, including various ones who aren't necessarily related - or at least aren't all that closely related.
So as a result of that and his unisex first name -- and this is a story he tells about himself so it at least has the ring of truth to it -- he admitted to once dating a girl in high school whose name was ... Madison Bumgarner.

Chilling.

Any truth to the story that the Giants' website declared Hunter Pence tonight's MVP before the game even started?

Fuck Bumgarner (maybe he actually did), but whatever. Fuck all Bumgarners.

To borrow a phrase from Frayed Knot from last October, let them deal with the six and a half foot Viking we will throw at them tonight. Both pitchers are amazing, but our line up is better. We are home. And it is our density!

Almost 11 hours until the game starts and we're already on page 3 of the IGT!

In this thread, on Monday, I said that I was enjoying the respite from baseball but that my patience would run out by today, and I was right! How am I going to get through a day at the office? I wish I could put myself into suspended animation until 7:30 this evening.
