Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Nervous about a lefty-heavy lineup against Bumgarner. And Bochy won't hesitate to leave him in as long as possible to avoid that crappy bullpen of his. There'll be no pitch count worries in this game.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 The Mets starting 1B is an interesting decision. I've seen Campbell's named mentioned (righty). Do you go with better defense (allegedly) with Loney or Duda and hope he can "getaholdaone"?
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I'd be disappointed if Duda wasn't starting at 1B.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Career vs Bumgarner:Duda: 0-1Campbell: 1-5, 3 KLoney: 2-13, 5 K (but zero AB since 2013)Meh. Gotta go Duda.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I like and respect and admire the Thunder-Bringer. But this pitching matchup, it... does not favor us.TOTALLY not trying to reverse-mojo us again. I TOTALLY think we're headed for disaster here. Again.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Met hitters' career vs. Bumgarner: .189 / .261 / .238 // .499.The good news is that this year it's .279 / .367 / .372 // .739. The bad news is that even with those numbers from this year folded in, .189 / .261 / .238 // .499 is still .189 / .261 / .238 // .499. He's 5-0 with a 1.80 ERA. He's Sandy Koufax against them. They got to him back on August 18, but the Giants got to Jacob deGrom worse. In fact, without double checking, I'm going to go out and state that it was the worst outing of deGrom's career. Gave up 13 hits, including a homer to Bumgarner. But this isn't about deGrom. He's hurt. It's about getting to Bumgarner. In that 8/18 start, he gave up the only homer by a Met of his career. It came off the bat of Justin Ruggiano. And he's hurt too. This is going to be a tall order.
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Bumgarner's ERA since August 1: 4.03.We got this.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I'm afraid that the choice expressed in this thread title might compromise Yoenis Céspedes' motivation.

Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Well, there's also that small matter of Bumgarner being the best post-season pitcher, like, ever.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Lefty Specialist wrote:Well, there's also that small matter of Bumgarner being the best post-season pitcher, like, ever.small-sample hubbub. Thor is a Cy Young candidate, if not the winner outright. You gotta start Duda, who's actually good, versus Campbell, who's just not, and Loney who's average on a good day. Duda hasn't really had lefty AB this year, but last year he was actually better verse them. this is gonna be a stressful game and I'm hoping not to be at the third consecutive postseason elimination for the Mets.

Pedestrian pitcher in the second half. All that post-season resume crap is just small sample size. He's a good pitcher, but it's a shit lineup. We jump on him for 3 in the first, and slowly pull away from there. The only drama that the night will feature is whether Terry should pull Syndergaard early with the Mets leading by 8.Chicago is going to piss their pants on Wednesday, because they know what's coming for them.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 1. Syndy needs to keep us in the game. I'm fairly CAHNfident he can do this as SFG ain't a Powerhouse offensive club but rather a balanced-attack kinda team. They don't whiff alot or hit a lotta HRs. They ran the bases like crazy on Syndergaard earlier this year.2. Can't make any errors. This by the way has not been a pressing concern of mine virtually all year, that is an under-appreciated result of the Muffy Effect. But as noted SFG puts the ball in play a lot.3. We gotta get Buttgardener off the mound asap. He's basically like their best starter, best 7th inning guy, best 8th inning guy and best closer, they just might keep him out there all day. I wouldn't necessarily disapprove a secret plan to knock him off the plate while batting too.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Yup. Claw or scratch to keep it tied until we get to that bullpen. Then score 20.

However, in the two games against the Giants -- they stole four bases on Plawecki in May, but were 0-for-2 against Rivera in August.

And it won't be easy to do this by running up his pitch count as you might in a regular season game against a 23-year-old pitcher. They'll probably let him throw 130 or 140 pitches if necessary.

He's 0/22 in the playoffs overall.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I'll be keeping score. Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Holy crap. Still more than 48 hours left to go until game time.I know the rest probably does us good, but man, let's play this fucking game.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 I don't know. I'm enjoying the respite. I didn't watch any of yesterday's game, and I'm glad not to have anything to worry about today either.I'll probably start getting a little antsy tomorrow and getting through the day on Wednesday will be a challenge.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2016 Posted October 3, 2016 Bumgarner's great post season portfolio means only one thing to me. He's due for an asskickin'. I think Thor is a head strong guy and that's a good trait in a pitcher, but I do wish he would accept the fact that he has to do something about what base runners are doing to him. I mean, all that would take is a better move to first, right? That's all I'm worried about, base runners going wild. But if Syndergaard don't let em reach first then it won't be a problem.
