Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 It's ok. We don't have anyone left who can reach it anyway.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 As gigantic ads go, the big Pepsi sign out there was at least somewhat Queens relevant as it mimicked the "real" Pepsi neon sign on the East River in LIC (Pepsi moved away years ago but they kept the iconic sign there). The citifield one is too "compressed" to be an actual replica. I'm sure whatever replaces it will be worse.A more general comment, old-school processed sugary consumer products are getting killed out there, so it's not surprising that those companies are pulling back ads. They have long since moved off trade-rag advertising as gfafif or me could tell you.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 It's been The Pepsi Porch for like 7 years now. Do you really think we'll ever call it by any other name? Whoever endorses it, it'll have to be one impressive display to knock Pepsi out of the name. For fans at least.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 It'll be a matter of weeks. If Gary Cohen calls it the Home Depot Deck or the Bleacher Report Bleachers, I have no doubt the culture will fall in line. Bud Harrelson was the shortstop for a decade, and then he wasn't. And he was a human being. Folks move on.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I think this would make a cool big neon sign replacement.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Author Posted November 10, 2015 Fans should probably just call it "The Porch" and ignore any corporate sponsorship. But I doubt that will happen.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 RC Cola would be more nostaligic.

Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Hah, wasn't on the Royals wavelength but point taken.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Did anyone take up sponsorship of the Mo's Zone?I don't remember calling that anything else besides "Right Field" this season.

I did like that it fit the other Pepsi sign, as far as big corporate signs go.The Citi arch would certainly fit on top of that pretty easily. And would be nice and ugly. One thing to think about here is the flag poles. They cut them lower and moved the flags around when the realized it was blocking the Pepsi sign, but now they could go back to making them normal sized and spread out the banners and what not.I figure it's 2:1 odds it's Budweiser anyway.3:1 that they turn it into a bar/SRO area. (which, besides not having good beer, would be pretty cool imo) 1:2 that if they do that, we get big long tables along the back of the seats and ushers leading down to the seats to prevent people like me from wandering down there to take pictures.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Why stop at allowing sponsorship of the upper deck? Why not the entire field?1st Base - Brought to you by Scope2nd Base - Sponsored by Victoria Secret3rd Base - Guess Jeans

soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 I always thought this bad boy:Wouldve fit very nicely on this right where the 'LET'S GO METS' is.Apparently, Sterling Equities didnt agree and put it on top of Shake Shack. But now perhaps something like that could go where the Pepsi sign is/was. Won't happen though right? Not like they need to advertise themselves at $10 million a year or whatever.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 A deal with Dick's sporting goods could get us "The Dick Deck".
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 or any beer company with Germanic lineage could give us "The Putsch Porch".
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2015 Posted November 10, 2015 Or make it triangular, with some Hooters girls dressed as stewardesses, and call it the "Delta of Venus",Or put some clowns out there and make it the "Party City Porch",Or make it smaller and call it "The Verizon Vetibule", or make it wider and call it "The Verizon Horizon", Or make it a place for our new free agents to sit and call it "Bob's Discount Place"?
