batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Fifty years and one day ago, on the day that JFK was assasinated, Phillies Records released what would become perhaps the greatest collection of Christmas Songs in pop music. The Mets commemorate the 50th anniversary of JFK's assassination and Phil Spector's A Christmas Gift to You with this:http://mlb.mlb.com/fan_forum/greeting_card.jsp?c_id=nym
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 I think it may be time to stop rooting for this team.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 In Harvey's defense, he was really there to talk about Qualcomm.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Holy hell, I thought seeing the other team videos would make ours look better, or at least more sufferable in context. It kinda does the other thing.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Yeah, the whole marketing department should have beenfired like two decades ago.

Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 OK, the Yankees version is gloriously awful.Autographed ornaments that make we question the literacy of most of the team aside, you gotta love the prominent role assigned to ARod, whom they are working so hard to jettison!
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Holy Hanukkah Bush.Niese actually wasn't bad. OTOH, kind of reassuring to discover there's something Matt Harvey isn't superb at.Besides staying healthy, I mean.

Are you the only one on this forum who needed to flush out all those other links to MLB Xmas videos to realize that the Mets song wasn't linked to JFK?

In that last scene, the kids looked like they were in prison. Appropriate imagery...
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Jeter does come off a bit messiahesque in their video card.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 In Hollywood, they bury all traces of dogs like this out in the desert somewhere.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I mean, it's better than sending out "The Day The Clown Cried" as a Passover greeting, I guess.Plus, my kid likes it. Like, a LOT. Like, we watched it six times suck-cessively before I employed the Daddy Veto last night.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I just had to watch this four times in a row. Again.I'm really starting to miss Anna Benson.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 This reminds me. If you pass a Sidewalk Santa and he looks like one of the Wilpons, it probably is - trying to get enough money for a Type A Free Agent.Later

Guest themetfairy Guests Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I love it, despite the fact that it's far from awesome. But it cracks me up.Face it - except for David Wright (who is always a good sport) and Justin Turner (who may be high, or who just genuinely loves Christmas music), there are hostage videos that look more natural than these guys. That said, something about it just makes me laugh.
dinosaur jesus Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I think it's fine. It's embarrassing, but in a good way.The one from the Yankees looks cheap and grandiose at the same time. Perfect.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I'd like it more if it were genuinely bad, but, I mean, d'Arnaud looks like he's been tortured into doing it. So it just misses being so bad it's good. It's so bad it's bad.

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted November 26, 2013 Author Posted November 26, 2013 I'd bet that there's at least one Met with a golden singing voice, but he won't show it off because of the macho culture he exists in.
