Per Rubin.

About time. He was doing nothing here anymore. Not sure who is coming up- maybe Tejada?

If true, funny how they leak this stuff.
He was just being talked about on post game on SNY.

Problem with Tejada is that whoever the non-starting SS is for the day winds up not being very useful off the bench. It's not like you'd want to use either to PH.
On the other hand it would be nice to have a real backup SS around just so you could PH for your SS every now and then and I don't think Turner is anywhere near ready.

Atchison could back up Q with, like, advice about marriage, or maintaining an engine, or other fatherly things.

I guess its more moves coming after the break, a lot of innings lately they probably felt they needed help in the pen.

Of course, the pen would be helped more by leaving Hefner in when he's thrown 75 pitches and is cruising along instead of going to the pen early and then using 4 pitchers in 1 inning.

Yeah, you can go one day without a backup SS and almost certainly get away with it (or press Wright into service if need be) so there's no harm is having an extra reliever for the day.
I assume that after the break we'll see Germen demoted in favor of a position player - just who that is will be interesting.

Jordany Valdespin caused stir in Mets clubhouse after being notified of demotion

PITTSBURGH When manager Terry Collins informed Jordany Valdespin that the Mets had decided to option him to Triple-A Las Vegas Saturday night, the exuberant utilityman snapped in anger in the visitors' clubhouse at PNC Park, yelling furiously while his startled teammates looked on, according to two people who witnessed the episode.

The witnesses requested anonymity to speak freely on the matter.

Bullpen coach Ricky Bones had to calm Valdespin down, according to one witness.

Hes not helping himself, one person said of Valdespin. Everyone gets upset when that happens. But you just need to shut up and pack your bags.

Valdespin had a similar incident last season as a rookie when he became furious after teammates played a prank on him in San Francisco. In May, he attracted more negative attention when he flipped his bat and admired a home run he hit against the Pirates while the Mets were getting routed. He was hit by a pitch later in the series.

He still doesnt get it, another witness of Saturday night's outburst said.

Valdespin, who was demoted to make room for reliever Scott Atchison, saw his playing time dwindle in recent weeks. When he did play, he struggled. He registered just two hits over his final 36 at-bats to drop his batting average to .188. His on-base-plus-slugging percentage stood at .566.

Valdespin's demotion seemed inevitable: Collins said he expects Justin Turner to join the team Friday. Turner has been one the disabled list with an intercostal strain. He likely would've supplanted Valdespin.

Collins said the opportunity to play everyday should help Valdespin, who will report to Triple-A Las Vegas. That may be difficult, however, because shortstop, second base, and the outfield are currently occupied.

"We've talked about this many times: It's hard for a young player who has pretty much spent his whole career as an everyday player to come up and play, maybe, once a week and then come off the bench and hit," Collins said. "It's very difficult. So he's got to go get some playing time. He's got to go get his swing back -- certainly get back in the lineup. If he's going to come back, at least he's got to get some at-bats."

Jordany Valdespin caused stir in Mets clubhouse after being notified of demotion

Collins is considering asking the 51's next opponent to plunk Valdespin, to teach the troubled outfielder a lesson. "Jesus Christ. He knocked over the whole buffet, including the french fry sandwiches. We don't return to Pittsburgh until next year, and who knows if even I'll be around".

The brief radio reports I heard late Saturday night didn't mention any public tantrum although it did suggest that there wasn't exactly a parade of guys going over to him giving out the standard 'Hang with it kid' kind of pat-on-the-back send-offs that usually accompany such demotions.

Per Mike Puma

Was told Valdespin had a confrontation with Terry Collins and called the manager a "c - - ksucker" and demanded to be placed on the DL.

Not winning friends is he?

He'll probably end up on another team and be good.

See, if this was the movies, it would be all, "You want to go on the DL? OK! Hey Buck! Put this guy on the DL."

"Sure, Boss!" Ka-POW!!

"Oooh, take it easy. You don't want to put him on the 60-day DL. You don't want to go on the 60-day, do you, Jordany?"

"mmm-pmmm"

"What's that? I couldn't hear you, what with all the cocksucking I'm trying to do."

Spin's big mistake: GM witnessed tantrum

Collins's new spin on Spin: "He didn't call me a **********".

By Adam Rubin | ESPNNewYork.com

NEW YORK -- New York Mets manager Terry Collins said infielder Jordany Valdespin made a major miscalculation when he acted insubordinately Saturday over getting demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas.

One of the mistakes he made when he had his tantrum is the general manager was there, Collins said, referring to Sandy Alderson happening to be attending that days game and in the room when Valdespin received the demotion news. That probably was not the best timing.

Collins, speaking on Monday at Citi Field, where he is serving as an All-Star coach, said Valdespin became angry after Saturdays loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates when informed he was being demoted to clear a roster spot for reliever Scott Atchisons activation from the disabled list.

He wasnt happy, Collins said. When he left the office, he was angry. The easiest way to put it is: I went out to the clubhouse to calm him down. It was not accepted very well by the other 24 guys, I can tell you that, too. We all know hes an emotional kid. Thats how he plays and thats how he goes about things.

Collins disputed a New York Post report that Valdespin called him an expletive to his face.

First of all, he did not, Collins said. Now, I cant say what he did on the plane. I cant say what he did walking out of the clubhouse. I wasnt there. By the way, he doesnt speak all that good English. It could have been cockroach, for all I know.

After the demotion meeting went badly and teammates became upset with Valdespins clubhouse histrionics, Collins and Alderson met a second time with the emotional infielder, this time about maturity, according to the manager.

Valdespin will not be disciplined, Collins added.

He will have plenty of time to report to the minors, though. Triple-A Las Vegas currently is in its All-Star break and does not resume play until Thursday.

Collins said Valdespin behaved better in the second meeting.

Theyre always fine. Theyre always OK -- the second time, Collins said.

I sent him down first and then I met with you guys, the manager added, referring to his postgame media session. And afterward I brought him in and pretty much explained the process of maturation dealing with this level.

Valdespin, in a series of tweets early Monday morning, wrote:

Though I try not to get upset about things that are written about me, its tough for me not to react to the article about me disrespecting my manager. I was very upset with myself for not helping the team when I was given the opportunity to play. I respect my manager [and] organization's decision to send me to Triple-A and am working very hard to become a better player and teammate and will hopefully be back to NY soon to do whatever is needed of me.

Valdespin has been suspended multiple times during his minor league career for behavior issues.

By me, Collins noted, referring to suspensions when he oversaw the farm system before becoming Mets manager.

Asked if Valdespin, now 25 years old, should know better, Collins said: One of the things youve got to understand is you cant take for granted anything. Youre saying, Geez, he should have known. You cant take it for granted.

Added Collins: You expect Jordany to understand it because hes been sent down before. He didnt get it.

[Applauding]

Also, I kinda feel like I should get partial credit here.
