Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I knew this was coming. I knew there was no way they'd match the money Reyes could command on the open market. I'd steeled myself against it. But it still hurts.
duan Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I don't know that I buy the whole "keep him August & September to keep some bums on seats" thing, the larger money is made @ Season ticket sales time and with broadcast deals. Surely they'd much rather have got this out of the way then, acquired some bonafide talent, rather then worry about the +/- 10% on individual tickets sales for 30 games. I mean how much could it actually be? 5,000 by 30 by $20 ? that's only $3 million, Reyes' salary for the 2 months would have been a chunk of that.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I think the most nefarious version of events can be most appealing to folks when it comes to Fred Wilpon.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Do you suppose that that commercial about the dry erase board rules and no more cantaloupe will still be in the SNY rotation come 2012?
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I heard the Indian chick from that ad is getting 3 years, 29 million from Toronto. Mets didn't bid.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 From the J---J---J---J--- press conference today:They showed me the plan right away, like 12:01, when I was a free agent, so that showed me that they want me there, you know, so they really push it. I see a lot of love from them, and I see the situation, I see the plan that they have, the great young talent that they have there in Miami, and I think it's a good opportunity to win...Were you kind of hoping the Mets would be aggressive the way the Marlins were aggressive with you? I mean, we expect that. Like I always say, I want to stay in New York, but that don't happen. Like I say, I need to move on because they don't offer anything, really, you know. They didn't make a real offer, so that means they don't want me there. Like I said, I need to move on. I'm not part of New York no more. I did thank them for giving me the opportunity to play in this game. But now it's about the Miami Marlins, so I'll continue to move on...During the season, you guys know, I always say I want to go back to play there. But they dont do anything to want me there. So, after that, theres nothing really I can do. Now, Im with the Miami Marlins. The Mets dont do anything to have me. It is what it is, man. This is a business and I have to move on. Its over. I cant be crying about that, because they dont show me anything. They dont push anything to have me there. Why should I be worried about it if they didnt want me? No shocker. But still... really fun to hear.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 One thing I won't miss is listening to Reyes speak.

Elster88 Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 2011 was the first year I haven't gone to at least one game at Shea/Citi with my dad in the past three decades. I am not ready to talk about this yet. There's a picture from the New York Post that Jon Stewart showed in a Daily Show clip that Cookie Mom (or maybe cooby) posted. That picture is me.
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 BUMP.I just like having this thread title at the top of the first page.

Guest vtmet Guests Posted January 11, 2012 Posted January 11, 2012 for a couple pages there, I was starting to think that this tragedy was never discussed...I already had booked a trip to the Tampa area for the week that the Mets are playing the Rays for the first time in about a dozen years in Tampa (June 12-14th?) when Reyes signed with the Marlins...Now it's lost it's point...and unfortunately, we fly back just before Reyes invades the Rays with the Marlins (June 15th-17th)...
