Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Everybody remembers the worst one.I remember him playing pretty well when he came over to the Mets from the Twins in 2007.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 That he played through pain , that he had a good 2009 season and on opening day 2010 it meant nothing as he got booed with vigor. Wrong memories?the contract , the dropped ball, being the poster boy for Miniya's bad contracts....adios Luis
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Not his fault but got a contract that was four times the length it should have been. Not his fault but Mets were never good enough during his stay to thrive with a player of his limited usefulness in the everyday lineup. Not his fault but the Mets didn't have or couldn't find a better option. Also, dropped a popup.

Guest themetfairy Guests Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 That even after the dropped ball, he STILL would catch balls with only one hand. That drove me absolutely bonkers!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Came close enough to becoming Schaefer Mets Player of the Month in July or August of 2009 that I went ahead and prepared this card:

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Bunting. Always bunting. And not covering bases. And being unable to move more than one foot in any direction.

metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 i remember him being much better in 2009 than anyone was willing to give him credit for.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Usted va al Buffalo en un autobus.Classic.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 I yelled "DOS MANOS" at anyone in Metly pinstripes within earshot for weeks, made a baby into an unwelcome IGT staple, made an actual baby, attended three MFY games (including the ALCS clincher) and rooted for Gary Sheffield. That's one crazy-ass summer.

The thing is that two-handed catches is hardly a standard that Luis failed to meet alone. It's not a standard at all, although I imagine some clubs drive it home more than others.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 He turned a really snazzy double play with Reyes shortly after coming over in '07.Mysteriously reached the second deck in left at Citi Field in '09; I'm pretty sure he was the first Met to do that. Was kept company on the bench the final game at Shea by an injured Moises Alou, who came out of DL purgatory to support the club that was still paying him. I saw a shot of them and strained to remember they were once young and world champions.Saw him from a few feet away on one of the Mets' blogger outreach nights and noted he sported neither horns nor tail (nor range).

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 He had a much better 2009 than most people realize, but one very costly play when he was still in the fans' doghouse damned him.

Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 underrated as a Met, wasn't as bad (by even close) defensively as people make him out to be. Seemed to care and tried hard, and was one of the more 'clutch' Mets in his time (just because it's not a three run bomb doesn't mean his RBI singles and not making outs were worthless)In at least two occasions was probably the better option as a steady player versus a 'hope this guy has a hot week or two' option that Manuel didn't utilize. Once due to his rehab in 2008 and coming back on the tail end of some family crisis that prevented him from being up to speed when the maximum rehab days time elapsed and later in 2010 when they rushed him back midseason and then benched him just as he started performing.Seems like he probably still harbored a grudge from that, despite new guys here this year. Not sad to see him go, please cut Luis Hernandez as well ,btw, who sucks.
