Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 The thread for questions only the UMD can answer.Like, how did Jason Roach manage to become today's (9/14) Most Popular Lookup?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 What's interesting is that he has been the most popular lookup before too. April 20th , 2008 and this past Sunday the 13thLooking at the memories of Jason Roach section might lead to a clue , Joe FigliolaOctober 10, 2003He may be a "cockroach" when he pitches, but Jason's a big larvae on campus when it comes to hitting. If he doesn't play another game for the Mets this season, then Jason would become the only Met player ever to hit 1.000 on a two-for-two.Think of it: Gary Bennett; Dave Liddell; Rodney McCray; and Ray Searage (I'm probably forgetting one or twomore) would all play second fiddle to a guy who had more hits in his only two at-bats of the year than Al Leiter had in 53 ABs and thirtysomething games. Such is the story of the 2003 Mets.could he have been a trivia question?I hope this wasn't a trivia question , was it?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2009 Posted September 15, 2009 Sometimes a search on Google News provides the answer, like it did recently with Ricky Otero. This time, not so much, unless people were inspired to search on "Jason Roach" because of this article, which appeared on September 13:http://www.capebretonpost.com/index.cfm?sid=285899&sc=150A chance meeting with Cheticamp pianist Jason Roach has led to engagements in Cape Breton, mainland Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and New England.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 And Michael Joseph Bacsik yesterday. What the hell?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I have no idea.Maybe he (or someone with the same name) was mentioned on the radio or something. Google News search comes up empty.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 Unhappy is he that does not know the cause of things.
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 We remember Mike Bacsik -

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Lee Mazzilli has bumped Tom Seaver down into fifth place in the all-time UMDB lookups. (I think this happened some time today.) When the UMDB started, Seaver was number 1, (which I think is appropriate) but he was eventually passed by Mike Piazza.Since then, Piazza has slipped into third place. Keith Hernandez is number 1, by a sizable margin, followed by Dwight Gooden, Piazza, Mazzilli, and Seaver.Mazzilli really doesn't belong in that company.Ron Darling, Tug McGraw, Darryl Strawberry, Mookie Wilson, and David Wright round out the top ten.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2009 Posted October 7, 2009 Mazzilli might be explained by younger fans wanting to know why SNY hired such a creepy guy to be in the booth last year.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Believe it or not, I just "discovered" this page, and thought it was kinda cool, so I thought I'd share:http://www.leaptoad.com/mets/memrecent.php?tabno=I
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 That's a great page.Seems like to get over 50 memories, you have as good a chance by being hated as you do by being loved. Guys who were both --- Gooden, Franco, Strawberry --- do particularly well, as do guys who had afterlives as managers or broadcasters. Most Memorialized Mets[/bigpurple] 1 Mike Piazza 1212 Tom Seaver 1163 Dave Kingman 1024 Keith Hernandez 1015 Rusty Staub 95 6 Dwight Gooden 937 David Wright 878 Len Dykstra 869 Lee Mazzilli 8510 Ed Kranepool 83 11 Darryl Strawberry 79T-12 Jerry Koosman 78T-12 Kevin McReynolds 7814 Bruce Boisclair 7615 John Franco 74 16 Bobby Valentine 72T-17 Roberto Alomar 71T-17 Mo Vaughn 7119 Howard Johnson 6920 Jose Reyes 67 21 Tom Glavine 6622 Willie Randolph 6523 Tommie Agee 6424 Gary Carter 63T-25 Robin Ventura 62 T-25 Mookie Wilson 6227 Jerry Grote 61T-28 Jeromy Burnitz 60T-28 Steve Trachsel 60T-30 Bobby Bonilla 58 T-30 Gregg Jefferies 58T-32 Ron Darling 56T-32 John Stearns 5634 Ron Swoboda 5535 Ron Hodges 54 T-36 Wally Backman 53T-36 Cleon Jones 53T-36 Ty Wigginton 53T-39 Edgardo Alfonzo 51T-39 Armando Benitez 51 T-39 Sid Fernandez 51T-39 Richie Hebner 51T-39 Felix Millan 5144 Doug Sisk 50Interesting that Bud Harrellson --- despite a long career as a player; an afterlife as a coach, manager, broadcaster; the key role in one of the most famous, if not the most famous, fights in Mets history; a high-profile post baseball career in the area as Duck owner; and being touched by notorious tabloid news --- is still so non-descript that he doesn't make this list. In fact, he has fewer memories posted (32) than Allen F. Watson (40).
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 Bud's stint as manager I think somewhat tarnished his old-skool appeal. This list proves that you just don't F with Bruce Boisclair!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I'm really surprised by how high some of these numbers are. 87 memories about David Wright? They seem to just trickle in, but I never noticed how quickly they were adding up.And I have no memory of creating that page. I was absolutely surprised to see it there. I must have knocked it out pretty quickly. (Either that, or it was put there by elves.)
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 A 1962 Met, Larry Foss, posted a memory of Gene Woodling today to the UMDB.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted March 3, 2010 Posted March 3, 2010 He left his e-mail. I think Grimmy should reach out to him in some fashion.

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2010 Posted March 4, 2010 We're making Mets daiquiris? I'll have one please.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 What's the Mets' all-time record in doubleheaders? sweep/split/swept?When was our last sweep? If I had to guess I'd say we're pretty rotten in this stat in recent years but I don't really know. We split last year at least once as I recall
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I swear, I was just about to make the exact same joke I made two posts ago back in March. Fwife is right, I really only know about 10 funny things and I just beat them to death! Fuck. I'll watch George Lopez this week and I'll have some all new material for everyone.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 One little tidbit I found interesting is that the Mets have the all-time best record on Opening Day out of any MLB franchise.

Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 I so thought this thread was about Ultimate Mets Daiquiris.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 27, 2010 Posted April 27, 2010 The Mets, going into tonight's game, have played 470 doubleheaders. They've swept 96 of them, and have been swept in 156.214 of the doubleheaders ended in a conventional split, with the Mets winning the first game 98 times, and taking the nightcap in the other 116.That leaves four less conventional results, four doubleheaders in which the second game ended in a tie. In those four twinbills, the Mets won the first game once, and lost the opener three times.(These doubleheaders that included tie games were played on 6/7/64 vs. LA, 5/31,65 vs. the Cubs, 10/2/65 vs. the Phillies, and 9/2/68 against the Braves.) In the 2000's decade, the Mets had only six sweeps, the last one coming on 6/29/07 in Philadelphia. The previous sweeps were 9/6/06 at home against the Braves and 8/19/04 in Denver. The Mets swept three doubleheaders in 2000, against the Cubs on 4/22, the Expos on 7/27, and the Rockies on 8/15.The team that the Mets have swept by the most often is the Phillies, with 27 sweeps. The Cardinals are next with 17, then the Giants with 16, and then the Cubs, Expos, Pirates, and Reds with 13.On the plus side, the Mets have swept the Pirates most frequently, at 14 times. The Cubs and Phillies are next, with 11, then the Braves, Expos, and Colts/Astros with 10.As for today's opponent, the Mets have only swept the Dodgers once, on August 28, 1971.
