Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 While I'm rooting for the Giants to win, I want the Rangers to win tonight. I want the Series to go back to San Fran and to my favorite ballpark, so that they can celebrate in front of the home crowd.

And we will have a good chuckle.Seriously. Every time I turn on these games I can't help but notice how sucky these lineups are and wondering how they hell these guys made it past the likes of the MFY's and Phillies. You can throw Tampa in the mix too. It gives me hope that maybe the Mets aren't as far away as we think.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Run-of-the mill football beat championship baseball in last night's ratings.Sigh.

Baseball, under it's old schedule (Game 1 on Sat thru Game 7 the following Sunday) always took Monday off and the NFL, under it's old TV deal, usually either skipped their Sunday game or stuck their 'throw-away' game there. Now MLB went to a Wednesday start/Thursday finale and, since the Sunday Night game was given to NBC (at huge dollars) it's been rigged to showcase their best teams the way MNF used to back in the day. Couple that with the nationally popular Steelers vs the defending champ Saints and it's not surprising at all.I also think the media drives this to an extent. The four-letter network so dominates the sports conversation in this country now that I think what they talk about and what they show doesn't just reflect what the public wants to see but alters it to some degree. Catching bits and pieces of a few sports tidbits today not only showed things to be football dominated (expected) but also showed a trend among host/geeks where they mockingly seemed barely aware that a WS was going on over the past few days or which teams were involved - the implication, of course, is that those listening/watching were of the same mindset. After all, if THEY aren't paying attention it only stands to reason that the rest of the country isn't either.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2010 Author Posted November 1, 2010 Looks like we may be getting the pitching duel we were denied in game 1. Ought-ought after two.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2010 Author Posted November 1, 2010 The shot of Tim Lincecum in a bowtie/nerd suit is the most awesome thing I've seen today.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 5 innings gone in 78 minutes -- In a Yanqui game that's known as the top of the 3rd.This game might just come down to not which pitcher blinks first but which manager. At some point one of them is going to decide to pull his starter for a "fresher" guy from the pen - and were this in a NL park he'd have to factor the lineup into that decision.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I was reading an article today about players who were in positions to retire on a high note during a World Series ... most of them didn't.But with all the talk about Renteria possibly retiring after this year he might be picking a great series to go out on.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 And Edgar Renteria may have just wrapped this up. Along with his career.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 That freak Lincecum taking world by storm.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 For such a mellow little dude, Lincecum has a hell of a "I've had enough of THIS shit" look.Three outs away.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 If you're Bochy how can you NOT start Lincecum in the 9th?With the lefty Hamilton leading off he may use that as an excuse to go to his LOOGY even though there's no way Hamilton can even tie the game, or he may just go to Wilson to start off the inning because ... well, just because it's the 9th.But geez I'd want 'The Freak' out there if I'm a SFG fan.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I think we're gonna get Wilson.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 The one time in years the NL gets the home-field advantage and it's not going to be a factor!
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 KNBR just played and ad: "1954. Ike was president. Elvis was king. And it was the last time the Giants won the World Series!"Elvis?
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Congrats, Giants!!!!And tip the cap to the Rangers. No one thought they'd be here -- and they kept the MFYs out!
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 And hey, congratulations Yankees, huh?

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Did I just see Mota in uniform hugging Wilson.Congrats to the Giants, nothing not to like here for me except no more baseball.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 You gotta figure when Buck was reciting that list of former SF Giants who never won a championship he was reading something that was prepared for him.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 The WS champs just won it all with a starting outfield of Cody Freakin' Ross, Pat Freakin' Burrell, and Aaron Freakin' Rowland !!!!
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 He threw in people like Greg Minton!

Scott Garrelts! He got John Montefusco but not his oft-conflated teammate John D'Aquisto.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 I like when they do the trophy presentation on the field, but I guess you cant do that when the road team wins.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Surprisingly warm all over from this. I'm friendly with a clutch of New York Giants fans (real ones, as opposed to me) who never gave up -- which I find strange, but that's their choice. These are guys who've waited 56 years for this. I'm happy for them. I'm happy for whichever San Franciscans who've remained loyal and weren't jerks to bmfc when he visited Phone Company Park. I'm happy for the castoffs who seem to really appreciate this. And for what it's worth, the Rangers couldn't have looked less interested as this game wore down. You're off the hook now, Dusty. Russ Ortiz can take out that ball if he likes. You too, McCovey. That line drive was high enough at last.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 And just like that, after the '08 Cubs, and '48 Indians, the third longest stretch without a World Championship is the Pirates at 31.
