Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2010 Author Posted July 28, 2010 The relief pitcher is batting with the game on the line. Sigh.[/quote:qtstk115]Hey, Valdes has a .571 average and an RBI.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Lost 20 of their last 30.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 It's like the bats turn off after 9 innings.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Well, we are still in good shape. We need 2 out of 3 from the Cards and we will get em tomorrow.12:10 start!Be there!Aloha!
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 It's like the bats turn off after 9 innings.[/quote:2fxfobuh]Well, they got more baserunners in extras than in the recent past.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Tonight's cockpunch brought to you by "David Wright overslides second base" and "Johan gives up 7 runs with 2 out."
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Also Valdes comes in one batter late, but a better game, certainly.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 It was a good game. After the first I hoped we had a comeback in us, but underlining all of that was despair. And they did get back into this game. That's what I'll be taking away from this one. That and this shot of brandy I'm pourin'.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Just got back. Way too many empty seats on a nice night.I don't care if the pitcher is up next, you don't give a free pass to a Mendoza-line hitter in the first inning. (PS Jaime Garcia currently has a higher batting average than Brendan Ryan.)Johan pitched to one batter too many in the sixth inning.Wright not beating the throw into second, sliding past the bag, and then standing there when he hadn't been tagged yet ate at me the whole rest of the game.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Quite a night. The Mets invited a dozen or so bloggers to be quasi-media, giving us field access for BP and then accommodating us with some very nice seats. One gigantic lowlight obviously (my personal 14-game Citi Field winning streak tried its best to stay alive but nothing lasts forever), but many highlights, none of which was bigger, particularly in the realm of Forums inspired by him, than getting to hang out with Ed Kranepool in two doses totaling approximately ten minutes...and when I say hang out, I mean stand next to him on the warning track behind the batting cage and spout an inanity every now and then to which he'd respond relevantly pleasantly. He's Ed Kranepool. And I sort of chatted with him. After that, what's a 13-inning, streak-breaking loss?
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Did you ask him about the Clemente picture?Clemente or not, that's incredibly cool!
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I turned it off with the Mets down 7-2. Between the shitty play and the low-def picture I couldn't stay awake. So I missed the comeback (bad) and the extra inning flop (better).

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I think by "low def" he means "standard def" (as opposed to "high def")
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Jerry more or less hung in there tonight, and probably didn't lose this game for the Mets, though he could maybe have gone to Valdes a batter or two earlier, since Feliciano was scuffling and having such trouble finding the strike zone, and he was going to bat in the bottom of the inning under any circumstances. Why is Feliciano throwing to lefties from the third-base side of the rubbber, anyhow? Is he that screwed up right now?Anyhow, I've decided I'm fine with Dave Jauss running this team for four days or so while the Mets pretend to earnestly interview people before re-appointing Bobby Valentine.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Excellent post Edgy. Are we witnessing the end of the Pedro Feliciano era or is he just tired (which is understandable)?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Feliciano's having a bad month, to be sure (6.23 ERA in July over 8.2 innings) but 8.2 innings is a relatively small sample. He's had similarly bad months before. (Check out August '09, July '07, and July '08.)
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I'd hate to see him go because he's very Metly, but Feliciano is one guy who might bring back something useful on the trade block.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Y'know, there's a lot of chatter out there about the sellers' market for relievers... but it seems all chatter. I mean, just because Toronto's asking for prime prospect meat for a guy like Scott Downs doesn't mean they'll get it... or that Feleesh-- who might just win a Metliness pissing contest with anyone in the clubhouse-- will fetch a similar price.

He sticks around for 2-3 as the Mets come back (or try to), then you've got many, many more pitching/PHing options available in extras. No matter how you slice it, his value on the mound-- in terms of run prevention AND bullpen preservation (especially considering the early start today) trumps the value of the best possible scenario for Carter, no?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Why was Takahashi even in the game? Isn't he still scheduled to start on Saturday? If so, why was he pitching the 7th inning of a Wednesday game that the Mets were trailing 7 to 3?

If he'd been kept out until Saturday, he would then not have pitched in a Nieve's age.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Just me, but I would have given those trailing-by-5 mid-innings to Ollie Perez and tried saving the others. If you're gonna use all your best arms winning or losing they're all gonna wind up burned out.
