Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Well, here it is. The World Series matchup that most of us didn't want to see.For whom do you root?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Phillies all the way...there are two teams in world sport that I dislike with passion and one of them is the yankees.

metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 i'm rooting for the world series to be canceled in an effort to prevent teh spread of swine flu, a national health emergency.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Only thing better than the yankees getting beat in the ALCS is getting beat in the WS.......I'll even gladly accept silly WS Champion Parade taunting form Rollins.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2009 Author Posted October 26, 2009 Only thing better than the yankees getting beat in the ALCS is getting beat in the WS..[/quote:1azuvr00]Hell no, it's far better if they lose in the ALDS, or better still, fail to make the playoffs.
Guest holychicken Guests Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 I am rooting for someone to develop a time machine before the end of this series so I can go back in time and squash all the butterflies I see hoping for SOME catastrophic change that would stop this ungodly occurrence from happening.

Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Please Lord, help the Phillies to not suddenly become stupid and forget all basic fundamentals like the Yankees previous playoff opponents. I don't want to suffer a Yankee World Series victory.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 I'm hoping that I'll wake up and find out that this season was all a bad dream.Later
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 This is easy.No way I could ever pull for a team that has tormented me my entire life. The Phillies fans are insufferable idiots, now they're our insufferable idiots. And if they can take down the bastard Yankees, then they're actually doing our bidding. The enemy of my enemy is my new best friend. Tip you cap, enjoy a pulled pork sandwich and start counting the days until pitchers and catchers report. There's always a chance Pedro will throw Joe Girardi to the ground.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 It would be less tolerable if the Yankees won. That's the best I can do.

Met Hunter Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 No brainer. Phillies.1) Never, I mean never, root for MFYs.2) Always root for NL over AL. No matter what.3) Other than the past few years, I've never given a rats ass about the Phils, their fans. Nothing. Their history is worst than ours, and they've been at it a century longer. They were never even our rivals until this team came along.4) As far as the fans, fuck the fans. One group will be crying in a week. I choose to carry that into another long winter.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Phillies please rip the Yankees tits off as quickly as possibleI hope Jayson Werth has one of those longball streaks.Hell, I LOVE the Phillies!, for the next ten days
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 I root for scandal. A stash of PED's in the clubhouse. Accounting irregularities in the front office. In game, on-field arrests for off-field crimes. All played out in a media circus before a national audience.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Hey! That's Greg Luzinski! Nice to see he's still gainfully employed.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 It's not exactly like seeing Pedro wearing a Phillies cap but jeez....what were you thinking?
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 It was a long time ago, before things were so intense. And they were playing the D-backs.At this point, I'm more horrified seeing myself 45 pounds heavier! Who is that guy!
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Seriously you look like you were roiding......you can tell us....go on do it.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Tug wore a Phillies cap too and we looked past that.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Rooting for DeNiro to show up as the umpire and threaten to kill Wesley Snipes in the rain.
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 3) Other than the past few years, I've never given a rats ass about the Phils, their fans. Nothing. Their history is worst than ours, and they've been at it a century longer. They were never even our rivals until this team came along.[/quote:knbwafyi]That is a great point. Unlike intra-division rivalries in college sports and the NFL, or even a "histories are forever intertwined" thing like Yankees-Red Sox or Giants-Dodgers, the intra-division, and even intra-league, rivalries are very transitional. Can you believe that almost 20 years ago the PIRATES were where the Phillies are now with the Mets? Sure the Mets and Cards have played each other in NLCSs twice this decade, but was there a hint of any of the sheer hatred from the mid-1980s? Right now its the Phillies, but a few years from now it could be the Marlins, or heck it could be a team like the Rockies after meeting the Mets a few times in a short time frame in the postseason.Unless one franchise moves, or MLB shuts down its operation, the MFY will always be the Mets #1 rival. The #2 one is always an ever changing team. So, GO PHILLIES!
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 Tug wore a Phillies cap too and we looked past that.[/quote:39mc1z24]Was it Sal/Sabermetric/whatever else he called himself that never forgave Tug for his 1980 parade remarks?I guess to some, those remarks did not hit the intended targets, as Tug had said that he was really talking about the media, and not the fanbase.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Rooting for DeNiro to show up as the umpire and threaten to kill Wesley Snipes in the rain.[/quote:1qml6n0f]Or Roy Hobbs
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 I like how, while there have been no votes for the Yankees, the votes against the Yankees have topped off at 26, just like their alleged championships.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 This whitewash will do nothing to stem the irritating flow of media stories portraying we Met fans as pathetic, convictionless losers when it comes to choosing sides in this WS. For Met fans this is a much easier choice than we had a year ago, for example (a 27-6 victory for the Rays).PS, can we link the archives somewhere on the new site? Thanks
