batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 The Mets magic number to clinch their division is ... 35.Not that I'm counting magic numbers but just now, I did calculate the Mets magic number.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I didn't think anyone would post this until it got to 25. Oh well...
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2008 Author Posted August 20, 2008 It was 37 two days ago.

If you do though, I'm coming over to scoop up a couple a pounds. We're running low on salt over here.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 this thread didn't go too well last summer/fall. i'll begin counting the magic number when its at zero.
Guest sharpie Guests Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 I agree. Don't keep this thread going. Bad karma.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 If we stop posting in this thread it won't keep going , OK?

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Well yeah , this will be my last post in this thread.....
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2008 Author Posted August 21, 2008 Do you realize that three days ago, the Mets magic number was 38?
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2008 Author Posted August 21, 2008 Maybe this is bad luck. FAFIF hasn't been heard from since posting on this thread. It's too bad FAFIF never cusses much. I like my salt salty.

TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 When your magic number equals the number of games you have left to play, there's really no point in keeping track of it.The way things stand right now, to guarantee a division championship with out help from anyone, they need to go 32-3 the rest of the way. Hardly magical. There's still loads of baseball to be played, and I'm looking forward to it. If we're up by more than 7 games with less than 17 to play, I'll be much more excited.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Was it Rogers who derailed the season by starting the magic number countdown last Independence Day?

Heck, there was a Kevin Kiernan Post column right around this time that declared the division over because of how the Mets handled the Dodgers during a weekend series.GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.Well, CLEARLY being 1 and a half up on August 21st is not the time to start playing games with Baseball Karma!
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 ] If we're up by more than 7 games with less than 17 to play, I'll be much more excited. It's not like we could blow that lead...
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2008 Author Posted August 21, 2008 All I'm sayin' is Ray Sadecki.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 21, 2008 Posted August 21, 2008 Don't see that jersey-over-windbreaker look too often anymore.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2008 Author Posted August 22, 2008 Does anyone remember Jon Matlack? The Mets also scouted Ron Blomberg rather heavily for that draft.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2008 Author Posted August 22, 2008 Jon Matlack's uniform # was the same as the uniform # of this guy below.Sandy Koufax and Fred Wilpon were high school teammates on the Lafayette HS baseball team. Koufax was also a former Met advisor/spring training coach.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Which is the same number of times someone's going to get poked in the eye if the Mets blow this lead.
