OH MY GAWD! WOGER CLEMENS IS AT THE WITNESS TABLE!

You know Suzy is curled up in the fetal position today, "Why, Woger, Why?"

Steve Phillips on ESPN's Baseball Tonight - "....based on my years around Major League Baseball and what we saw and heard in the hearing today, I believe Brian McNamee and not Roger Clemens."

After Day one of the Congressional hearings Clemens appears to be losing the battle for public opinion. According to a poll by ESPN, respondents have voted by better than a 2 to 1 margin that they believe Roger Clemens did take PEDs. Broken down by states, the majority of respondents in all 50 states and the District of Columbia have all voted that Clemens took PEDs.

Heh, not only did she come off as a bad shill when she made her infamous "OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS" call, but she then took all the criticism of her and made it seem that everyone was attacking women in the sports media in general (as well as her breaking down because it appeared that Torre was speaking as Yankee skipper for the final time).

So, not only did Clemens not deliver a performance worthy of her over-the-top, almost pro-wrestler announcer-esque delivery of the return moment and failed to finish in his final start, but he turns out to be a complete cheat and a liar.

In other words, THIS is whom Suyzn pretty much gave up a huge part of her credibility as a reporter for?

Ewwww, I hadn't thought of this...

The following is pasted from MSNBC.com's home page:

One of Brian McNamees lawyers predicts Roger Clemens will be pardoned by President Bush, saying some Republicans treated his client harshly because of the pitchers friendship with the Bush family.

I guess, since Roger Clemens has, strangely, become another partisan issue, it's reasonable to speculate that Bush would take the pro-Roger anti-Brian stance.

Read somewhere today that Roger built a horseshoe court (court?) at GHW Bush's ranch.

what a load of crap. there isnt a scintilla of evidence that Bush has or intends to have anything to do with this.

]Roger Clemens can expect a pardon from President Bush if the seven-time Cy Young Award winner is ever pursued for lying to federal officials, a lawyer involved in Wednesday's hearing told USA TODAY.

"It would be a prospective pardon," Richard Emery, one of the lawyers for Clemens accuser Brian McNamee said Thursday. "They're perfectly legal and it would be typical of the George Bush White House. We'd expect Bush to call Clemens a 'historic figure' who has done so much for this country and then let him off."

Clemens is a close friend of the first President Bush, even building a horseshoe pit at his Texas home at the suggestion of the former president. But even if he has a relationship with the family, that doesn't guarantee Clemens would get off the hook.

and yes, it is just silly to think that bush would grant him a pardon...

but not to wonder why it was such a painfully partisan affair.

but, if it was less split down party lines, and especially if hte party lines didnt split the way they had, then it wouldn't even be necessary to wonder why the split split the way it did.

Well Bush can't pardon him into the HOF and as much as Clemens says he doesn't care about the HOF that is just bullshit, remember when he retired one of those times he remarked that with his Mom being so sick he wanted her to see him enter into the HOF and that five years for her was a long time.

Russo made a great point about the hall today, if Clemens and Bonds both don't play this year they'll be up for election the first time together. both were locks to receive 100% of the vote absent steroid issues, so we get to ansewr some questions by comparing what happens to the two of them.

I doubt one goes on and the other doesn't, what if Piazza retires and out of the three only he gets in, that would be cool.

even if they both get in the percentages will still be telling. When Clemens gets 85% and Bonds 75% or the other way around that when you have to ask what 10% of the writers were smoking

There will never be a 100 percent vote. There will always be some writer who likes the attention, and will trot out some lame excuse. I remember one of the morons who didn't vote for Seaver said he just never votes for someone in their first year.

I thought Ripken had an outside shot only because everyone loved the guy.

How can anybody be a lock to receive 100% when that's never been done?

Those writers should be immediately stripped of their vote.

That doesn't bother me. There's always outliers and we shouldn't worry about them. Replace them and there will be others. The important thing is that the system is strong enough to absorb and sublimate them.
And it more or less is.

It's like this guy I know who thinks the hat dot is a greater concern than the black jerseys and hats.

Jon Stewart was great on last night's The Daily Show. This is a little long, but worth it -

According to this morning's Daily News, apparently somebody has a photo of Roger Clemens at that 1998 Jose Canseco barbecue that he's denied having attended.

The photo was taken by a kid who was 11 at the time.

Please tell me the photo was time- and date-stamped

Not that I know of. But if it was one of a bunch of photos taken that day, then combined with the others it could establish that it was that party. It could be recognizable as Canseco's house, and the presence of others in the photos could narrow it down to that date. Maybe.

"If I am guilty of anything, it is of being too trusting of everyone, wanting to see the best in everyone and being too nice to everyone."

I'd love to see the guy with the photos called before Congress so Clemens can call an 11 year old kid who was just happy to take pictures of ball players a liar.

I'm still amazed that not one member of the committee has tried to associate the (shard of) bat throwing incident with "'roid rage".

they should bring it up just as an example of his inability to tell the truth.
