nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 Sox... still spiting the yankee fans.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2007 Posted October 21, 2007 A Red Sox championship would certainly spite the MFY crowd, just another Red Sox ring on the back of those pathetic/obnoxious "got rings?" shirts would make the obnoxious that much more pathetic. But have to go with National League pride and potential history in the making for the 7-0, 21-1 Colorado Rockies. It's time to get off TBS and meet America.

Guest Rockin' Doc Guests Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I almost always pull for the National League team in the World Series. This year will be no different as I will be pulling for the surprising, underdog Rockies. This is one of those Series where I won't be upset with the outcome no matter which team prevails.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 It's a win/win as far as I'm concerned, so I'm hoping for a long, exciting series. But I'll likely pull for Colorado just to give things a fresh blood / National League / small payroll angle.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I'd not be upset no matter who wins, Joe Torre thankfully has turned down an invitation to join Buck and McCarver in the booth. I'd hope they will keep it a two man booth.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 For some reason, i remember Torre's brief announcing career between managerial gigs. It was with the Angels, I think, but how would I have caught an Angels game?Anyhow, he seemed pretty awkward. Engaging isn't a word often used for the guy.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I voted Rockies but I don't have a strong preference either way.I don't give a rats ass about one league over the other. I used to prefer the National League because that's the league the Mets play in, but I abandoned that a long time ago. (I first rooted for the AL team in the World Series in 1993, and did so again in 1997, 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2006.)
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2007 Author Posted October 22, 2007 Rockies, although it would be sweet as hell if the Red Sox were to win it and then see the looks on MFY fans' faces.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Yeah, well, it won't be as bad as the looks on OUR faces as we fell apart in the second half of September. It'll take a lot of doing for any team to out-misery the Mets in 2007.

I'm sure he'd do his homework and all, but still ...
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I remember going to a White Sox-Angels game in Comiskey Park in 1988 and while looking around the stadium I spotted Joe Torre in the broadcast booth.I never would have guessed at that time that his future contained more glory than his past.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 From the article I got the info from.]If Torre does not manage in 2008, broadcasting is a strong possibility. He spent nearly six years as a well-regarded broadcaster for the California Angels from 1985 to 1990, and was an analyst with ESPN during the 1989 National League playoffs and World Series. He even served as the play-by-play voice for KTLA-TV for part of the 1990 season, working with analyst Reggie Jackson.

I'd root for the NL even if it was the Phillies or Cardinals or Cubs or Pirates or Nationals or (our NL East rivals from 69-93) Dodgers (NL team I truely despise on a deeply passionate level) or Astros (sibling rivalry) in the series
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Red Sox. They are my American League mistress.
Guest martin Guests Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 because i will always wish good times for kaz matsui, i will root for the rockies. other minor issues:1. i always root national league2. i almost always root for the smaller payroll roster in non-met games. i feel like it is a more praiseworthy accomplishment to win with less. rocks over sox on fox.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2007 Author Posted October 22, 2007 It might be awkward if I watch the Series with my girlfriend, since I'll be kinda pulling for the Rockies while she is a huge Red Sox fan.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Don't officially care, but unofficially, I'll have my invisible Kaz Matsui jersey on all week.

metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 well, unless its too kinky. then, perhaps, you both may lose.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Have you seen the Palelbon Irish Jig he does?, did after clinching the East and the ALCS.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted October 22, 2007 Author Posted October 22, 2007 I'm guessing Bostonians loved it. It's pretty good.
