1. Who are the Phillies commemorating with their black patch? I don't remember any Phillies dying recently.

2. Does the honor of managing the All-Star team belong to the manager or the team? In other words, suppose LaRussa left the Cards after last year and decided to manage another NL team, would he get to go? Or would it be the Cards new manager? What if LaRussa retired? Would it be his replacement, or Willie as the manager of the NL Runners up?

3. Maggie Gyllenhaal. Hot or Not?

1. Don't know.

2. According to Wikipedia:
The manager for each league's team has for many years been the manager of the previous year's league champion. This honor is given to the manager, not the team, so it's possible that the All-Star manager could no longer be with the team with which he won, as happened in 2003, when Dusty Baker managed the National League team despite having moved from the National League champion San Francisco Giants to the Chicago Cubs. This has even included situations where the person is no longer actively managing a team: in 1979, Bob Lemon managed the American League team after having been fired by New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner. The coaching staff is selected by the manager.

3. Not.

The honor belongs to the manager. Bob Lemon, and he's not the only one, came back to manage the AL team after he had been canned coming off of a pennant winning season for the Yankees. He even put the Yankee uniform back on, which I question.

I also question Frank Torre wearing a Yankee uniform in the All Star dugout.

I also seem to remember Danny Murtaugh coming out of retirement to manage the NL All-Star team in 1972. (He won the World Series with the Pirates in 1971.)

Who managed the All-Star teams in 1965? Both pennant-winning teams in 1964 ended up with new managers in 1965.

As for Maggie, she's definitely cute, but I wouldn't call her "hot."

Movies that the very hot Ms. Gyllenhall has appeared nude in, thus emphasizing her hotness:

re: Maggie

I've never seen a girl vary so much depending on angle. She can look great or bad from scene to scene, even within the same movie. Love her personality though....enough to carry her to Top 5 status for me.

Q: Is this the worst day of the baseball year?

A: Yes

i think monday was the worst, being further away from the next met game than we are now.

how did Vukovich get 597 career at-bats and a 13-year career with those numbers? he had a career OPS of .425, i wonder if thats the lowest ever for someone over 500 career ABs?

He did manage to get traded straight-up for Dave Schneck (a couple of years after Schneck had played his last major league game).

Why the hell did I think he was a former great of the game....would never have checked his numbers until you mentioned them above....

Interesting change, which brings up a couple of trivia questions:

1. What manager (or managers -- there may be more than one) managed an all-star team without ever managing in the post season?

2. What manager managed four all-star games, but only was in the postseason twice?

(The change of rules now makes this much more unlikely, though not impossible.)

3. (easy one) What all-star game didn't have either of the previous year's winning managers managing?

That reminds me...does anybody else think that Reese Witherspoon's chin is really pointy? I never noticed until about a year ago.

Ouch.

We need a comparison photo test thread. Reese vs Drew's chins.

I'd start it but I currently have no PC at home and I'll be danged if I use my husband's laptop to start a thread like that

David Letterman saw several of Drew's body parts in profile ... I'm just not sure that the chin was among them.

FK: >>>Q: Is this the worst day of the baseball year?<<<

Just a little less worse than that day off after a home opener (if it's to start
the season) ... otherwise, yeah it sucks.
