Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 I thought I heard the ESPN guys yesterday say that Delgado was first. That surprised me. I guess I was right to be surprised, since I obviously heard it wrong. I often don't listen to the announcers as closely as I used to. I think I listen along with Gary, Keith, and Ron, but are more likely to tune them out when some other crew is doing the games."Jones" is Chipper, I assume?I'm not sure who Hardy is. Is he with Milwaukee?

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 They said during one of the broadcasts against the Brewers that his parents wanted to name him JJ, but his middle name was almost "Jeter," after an uncle or something. That would have been weird, looking back now.The kid's having a great year (.301 / .350 / .574 with 15 HR).

nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 Delgado is so far behind Pujols and Howard that its not even worth putting up i assume?as far as pitchers go it looks like Maine has got to make it right now. Wagner would certainly be a candidate but they'll likely feel there are already enough Mets.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 The Mets might not place a pitcher on the staff. If they do, Perez might be a possibility as well as Maine and Wagner.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2007 Author Posted June 5, 2007 Don't forget that there will also be a "Final man" vote after reserves and pitchers are selected. Wagner was one of the 5 candidates last year but did not win.I didn't bother putting up Delgado or Valentin because they're pretty far behind and probably shouldn't be at the all-star game regardless.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 5, 2007 Posted June 5, 2007 It's an underpublicized part of the problem with the All-Star selection process: Since every team must be represented, and hitters are the only ones voted in, pitchers from teams whose hitters are getting voted in are disadvantaged.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 From the News...]Willie Randolph, a six-time selection as a player, is headed back to the All-Star Game after an 18-year absence. NL skipper Tony La Russa invited Randolph to be one of his coaches at the July 10 exhibition in San Francisco.Randolph played for La Russa in Oakland in 1990. The two also were teammates in the minors one season in Charleston, W.Va.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Not for nothing but I don't see what good it does for baseball, the Mets, their fans or Paul LoDuca to be the center of a "get out the vote" campaign.I mean I could see it if a player were a write-in candidate and, importanly, HAD A GOOD CASE to beat the guy in front of him, who by the way has earned his lead by playing better than every other guy at his position and has never been to the All-Star Game before. This pasrtisan, unsportsmanlike bullshit is one reason (of many) I could give two shits about the All-Star game anymore.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 New York used to consider itself above that kind of petty homerism.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 I'm grouchy too. But I'm most grouchy about the centralization of MLB websites and promotion. You just know there's a shillbot protocol released into the grand code of MLB.com sites, sorting out who is closest to first place for each team without actually being in first, and generating the same online article/mass e-mail for each of these guys.If the same shillbot is pushing one group to put Cabrera ahead of David Wright and pushing another to put Chipper Jones ahead, why should anyone care?
m.e.t.b.o.t. Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 would human poster edgy dc happen to know where a certain underutilized spring-wound contraption might be able to send his resume to apply for said shillbot position? m.e.t.b.o.t. feels like there is perhaps more in the world that can accomplished by an enterprising mechanism, in addition to the primary duty of schaefer vote tabulation.and of course, the opportunity to earn some cash on the side, with which perhaps to purchase some 'bling' would be rather welcome. everybody needs a little bling. even robots.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 m.e.t.b.o.t. wouldn't compromise his nominal loyalty to the Mets by shiling for players from every other MLB team, would m.e.t.b.o.t.?
Guest vtmet Guests Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 The only Mets that deserve to be in the A/S game are: Reyes and Wright; no other offensive player belongs there; no starter belongs there and although Wags has been pretty solid, there are a bunch of NL closers that have been even more impressive...
m.e.t.b.o.t. Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 the financial reward would have to be significant. m.e.t.b.o.t. would likely need a new paint job, and a new acronym, at a minimum. good acronyms are a very rare commodity, and command top dollar.if shillbot is not a well-paying enough vocation, then there would be no benefit to taking the position. m.e.t.b.o.t. is merely exploring the opportunities that might exist out there.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Might as well add this metsblog post to the thread for posterity.]Carlos Delgado, on the relentless announcements, while talking to reporters after the game… “(Hahaha) I did it online, during the fifth inning. Well, they’re asking for five times, during the game, so if everyone voted five times today he was going to overcome Martin, so I did it five times in the fifth inning.”Lo Duca, on whether he noticed the solicitation, and whether he voted for himself, when talking to reporters after the win… “No I did not, and how could you not notice it. It was a little overboard (hahaha). Umm, it was fine, it’s pretty fun. I had a couple of the Twins hitters come up and say they voted for me before they came up at-bat, so, it was pretty funny.”
stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Is it wrong for me to wish Barry Bonds, Griffey and Soriano all have an avalanche of votes in the next week to knock Beltran OUT of the ASG?
