I haven't received an explanation yet for this latest outage, but it does appear to be back.

The hosting company is usually pretty responsive. They seem to be having a bad week, though.

Dont bother registering-
all pics in this section contain the watermark even when logged in.
Thats F'd up.

Join Corbis- they remove the watermark upon registration.

on a further side note:

While I was at the Gettyimage site, I figured id purchase one just for the hell of it.
To see the possible price range.
I picked the most worthless image I could find, a picture of Perez dancing over the baseline on his way off the mound.
Figuring the image had no baring on the game, I figured it would be on the cheaper end of the spectrum, if they defferentiate.

So, for:
Subject: Perez off the mound
Image size: Medium
Usage: Web page
Time: for a 6 month period starting with purchase.

135$
ONE HUNDRED AND THIRTY FIVE BUCKS!

What a joke.

Those are nice, and thank you, but given that $135 usage fee, I may have to steer clear of Getty images.

That's a fun toy.

Cliff Floyd, despite the time he's missed, is on a three-year streak as the Mets most plunked batsman.

Don't be dissing Richie Ashburn's 424 OBP in '62 however. That was the Met standard for 36 years!

It looks like he fell short of the 500 plate appearances he'd need to qualify.

161 games times 3.1 is 499.1.

Ashburn had only 473 plate appearances.

Yeah, just noticed that.

Here's one. If I dial up Bobby Valentine (or Willie Randolph or Dallas Green or Mike Cubbage, etc.) I get the dates that they were acquired or divested as players by the Mets, but I don't get the dates they were hired or fired as managers. Is that do-able?

I think so. It would require a little coding, and I'd have to track down the dates for each manager, but it's something I can add to my mental to-do list.

I think I may have included the hire and fire dates in that long year by year coaches posts a few weeks ago in the triva thread about Manny Acta.

Umm, that Jay Bell picture (above) looks a lot like Tom Glavine.

Especially considering that Bell didn't bat left.

Somebody just wrote to me and said that this isn't Doug Saunders:

http://www.leaptoad.com/mets/profile.php?PlayerCode=0491

He said it's Darren Reed.

I have no memory of what Doug Saunders looked like. I got the image from MetsCollector.com. Anyone have any opinion on this, one way or the other?

Thanks.

Today is Derek Bell's birthday. And it's also Jay Bell's birthday.

So who's the leading UMDB hit-getter so far today?

Gus Bell

Maybe people are checking to see why he wasn't also born on December 11. It would have been cool if he was.

THE admin can only see the tracking. You should see a notice about it when the daily lookup section of the All Time Roster page changes automatically tommorrow

Yes. I can peek under the covers and see who's leading for the day. I don't have it exposed to visitors because they might be tempted to manipulate the results.

It's been known to happen!

Who would do a thing like that? It would be unfair to the Billy Wynne's of the world.
