Speaking of Francesa & Russo they had a classic moment yesterday.

Russo has been complaining that the front page of the New York Times sports section has been devoted mostly to World Cup coverage ("That's a bad job by the Times, you can't do that in New York!").

Francesa yesterday, trying to calm his partner down retorts with: "Well, Doggie, you see I in fact read the New York Times and you have to understand what type of paper they are. The sports section is not the best but it focuses on other areas of sport. I wouldn't expect you to understand that but you see, I read the Times. Did I mention that I read the Times?"

Francesa is just so much smarter than the rest of us. He is. He tells us so every day.

It does help that Russo is learning disabled though.


Now I'm like Francesa, I read the Times too (well cause I'm smarter than you - not as smart as him though) and I've got to say that I really like the Times sports coverage. Its not over the top, no hyperbole, gives you the straight dope and always has the pertinent story. Of course I also read the Post and the News for the late scores and the gossipy hyperbolic tidbits but hey, like I said I'm not as evolved as the Fat Man.)

As a M&MD apologist, my take was that it sounded like Francessa was making fun of Dog for crying about the New York Times when Dog doesn't even read the paper. Didn't seem so much like he was trying to make it seem like he's king of the world or smarter than who was listening. Just that he was smarter than Dog.

FWIW, I find the NYTimes sportswriters to be no better than those at the rest of the papers.

Seems that Francesa missed a few days at least in part because he was seeing a doctor who told him that it's time to get a better diet. (why he needed a doctor to tell him that as opposed to ... say a blind news dealer is a question but that's besides the point here)
So Dawg asks him what he can't eat.

Okay I'll buy that but to me it seemed that Francesa, as usual, was just showing how much better he is than everyone else. Pompous ass that he is.

I like the guy in the Times that is the Mets beat writer - Shpigel I think is his name. They've always had good guys. Olney was on the beat a few years back.

I get a kick out of Mushnick and the guy that does the 'Tuesday Morning Shortstop' column in the Post and Lupica is still readable at times in the News.

But the Cretinous Canine is the first to gush about each new issue of Sports Illustrated, and sometimes quote from their articles. He then will tell us how they are great because they cover all sports. He practically goes orgasmic when they give major coverage to tennis events. I wonder how he feels when SI gives major coverage to the Olympics, another once-in-four-years event?

Like SI, the Times is not just a New York publication. Its readership spans cities, states and countries. He just doesn't get it.

That's a bad job by Russo.
