Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 Milledge down. Not looking good for Lastings to get a postseason taste this year, huh?Oh well. I would have liked to have seen him in the playoffs (and that may yet happen) but the Mets are overstocked in the outfield, and Endy has been more productive.Floyd remains the wild card here. Will he be healthy on October 3?

Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2006 Posted August 24, 2006 25-Man Roster meet 25-Page Thread.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Bannister's return pushes us to a season-high 13 pitchers. If Oliver Perez is indeed starting on Saturday more moves are coming. Dave Williams certainly wouldn't deserve it but he could be headed to waivers. The other feasible option would be to send Bannister back to Norfolk immediately after the game.Darren Oliver certainly is well rested, having not pitched since August 14 (that's 10 days now). All these pitching moves make it that much harder to find some days off for our regulars. It's been a month since Wright had one, and Jose Reyes hasn't had one since the all-star break.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Sorry--saw this after I posted that Milledge thread (and I was reading before posting so dont even go there).I would have thought Milledge going down would be a threadworthy event. You can delete that thread, powers that be.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 The Bannister/Perez flip happens, still leaving us with 13 pitchers on the roster.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 Do we know what number Perez will wear?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2006 Posted August 26, 2006 mets.com has him listed as #46
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Bump for the returns of AHernandez, Ring, and Bell (for the 5th and final time -- is that a record?)
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Call-ups due tomorrow:Brian Bannister, Mike Pelfrey, Kelly Stinnett, and according to Gary on the SNY broadcast, Phillip Humber. I didn't hear him say Lastings Milledge but I've got to figure he's coming back too.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 - I'd certainly want to see Milledge back also. If nothing else he's a RH bat and a bit of speed when our bench doesn't have a whole lot of either.- No harm in bringing up Humber. He, like Pelfrey, was signed to a Major League contract meaning he's already on the 40-man and there are no option years "wasted" by bouncing him up. But I doubt he'll see much action (at least on the mound). May get into a game or two but is prolly here to soak up the atmosphere as much as anything.Plus, hell, we've already used 26 pitchers this season, another one can't hurt.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 If Humber gets into a game he'll be the 799th Met, and probably the last new one this season. Number 800 will be the first new guy of the 2007 season.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Bannister, Humber, Pelfrey, Williams, Milledge called up.Ledee and Stinnett had their contracts purchased.Steve Schmoll to the 60-day DL to make room for Ledee/Stinnett on the 40-man roster. That makes our 60-day DL total 5: Duaner, Castro, Schmoll, Padilla, and Victor Z.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Humber was the winning pitcher for Binghamton last night. He pitched 6 innings, gave up two hits, one run, no walks and struck out 4. That lowered his AA ERA to 2.88. Later
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 ="Gwreck"] Bell (for the 5th and final time -- is that a record?)Apparently not:]Mike Thompson is being promoted from Triple-A Portland for the sixth time this season. The right-hander is 6-1 in Portland with a 3.76 ERA. He pitched three scoreless Later
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Does Milledge make the post-season roster? It would seem he HAS to, doesn't it? Otherwise we have no RH-ed OFers on the team (other than switch-hitting Beltran, and UT Woodward, who we need available as an IF backup). And assuming we go with a 6-man bench /11-man staff (as we should, with a starter in the bullpen), does Robo make the staff over Mota, based on his ad hoc "assistant coach" role with the pitchers?
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Yes, I think Milledge makes it and bumps Tucker out. The 25th man will probably be Tucker/A. Hernandez/Maine.Unless of course they leave Trachsel out.
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 I'm beginning to think that maybe the Mets go with 12 pitchers, the starters being as unpredictable as they've been. But, a lot can happen in 4 weeks.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Looks like Pelfrey is not being promoted yet. From The Virginian Pilot:]On to Port St. Lucie, Fla.Rookie pitcher Mike Pelfrey is headed to the Mets' spring training complex in Port St. Lucie, Fla., to receive treatment for an ailing back. Tides trainer Brian Chicklo said the injury was "very minor."
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 From the Times article today.]Willie Randolph said he did not anticipate having a postseason need for any of the players who were recalled when rosters expanded last Friday.

This team needs a righty hitting outfielder because I think they will see a lot of lefty starters. And Green had some goshawful swings against lefties this past week.Later
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I don't remember all the KTE's. Which potential playoff opponents have a lot of lefty starters?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Off the top of my head -The Phillies have Cole Hamels, Ron Wolf and Jamie Moyer.I'll check the others and post/edit here if I find a potential playoff opponent with more than two lefty starters.Edit:LA - nopeHou - nopeStL - nopeReds -nope, but four pretty effective lefty relievers.Yes, its the Phillies who scare me.Later
Guest Johnny Dickshot Guests Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 The Phillies! They could go with an all-lefty rotation if they want:Hamels, Leiber, Wolf, Moyer, Madson, plus they got Fults and Arthur Rhodes in the bullpen. It's important they don;t make it.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 The Astros, aside from Clemens (assuming he answers the bell) and Oswalt, come with Wandy Rodriguez and Andy Pettitte.
Guest OlerudOwned Guests Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Cardinals- None, with Mulder out.Reds- Home Run MiltonDodgers- Mark Hendrickson, who I don't envision starting in the postseason because he's lousy. Padres- David WellsGiants- Noah LowryPhillies- Cole Hamels, Jamie Moyer, Randy Wolf. Probably the biggest concern, but the Mets hit Moyer pretty well recently. Wolf's overall numbers aren't so good, but according to MLB.com his OBA vs. LHB is a re-damn-diculous .045.Marlins- Scott Olsen and Dontelle Willis. That scares me a bit.
Guest Yancy Street Gang Guests Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 Wells became a Padre too late for the postseason, didn't he?So it looks like the Phillies are the only team that can come at the Mets with a lot of lefty starters, and they can't be a first-round opponent.Getting back to Milledge, I guess one option would be to leave him off the NLDS roster and add him to the NLCS roster in the unfortunate event that the Phillies are the opposing team.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted September 6, 2006 Posted September 6, 2006 I'll say it again and again; the Phillies and Marlins are the only other NL teams that scare me.
