Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted Friday at 05:40 PM Posted Friday at 05:40 PM On paper, this Mets team should be right in the thick of things, both in the division and certainly the Wild Card. Given the massive underperformance of the roster this season, what is your opinion on the future of David Stearns?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Friday at 10:23 PM Posted Friday at 10:23 PM As almost always, it depends on the alternative.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted Friday at 11:04 PM Posted Friday at 11:04 PM I don't think Stearns is going anywhere but I might question his hiring
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted yesterday at 01:05 AM Posted yesterday at 01:05 AM I think he's here for a while yet, Cohen waited for him and I would think Stearns has through next season at least
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted yesterday at 12:17 PM Posted yesterday at 12:17 PM No way he's going anywhere, but Buster Olney pointed out yesterday that Steve Cohen could come out and say that to end a lot of speculation. The discussion pointed to insiders saying the team has been unlucky with injuries -- especially Lindor and Soto and Holmes -- and guys who are underperforming, like Bichette and Manaea. Polanco and Robert being injured shouldn't come as a surprise. They were critical of the Polanco signing, saying it was an overpay from the start, and said Robert all along was just a placeholder for whenever Ewing was ready.

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago I’m done with David Stearns. He’s had three years of $300M+ payrolls and never sniffed a division race. Never won 90 games. Team getting worse each year. This year’s team is 29th in MLB in OPS. 26th in runs scored. A combination of bad roster construction and somehow getting the worst of the guys we have here. That second part is the biggest problem. I think he’s smart. And if he acknowledged such failures and talked about re-examining the system he’s instituted to see why this is happening, I’d be ok with riding it out to see what happens. But he doesn’t. He talks about staying the course. Doubling down with Mendoza. Insisting that his way will eventually work out. “The players need to perform” Yes David. But why aren’t they performing? And what are you doing that’s preventing that from happening?
