seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 01:42 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:42 PM Austin Slater DFAed to make room.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Tuesday at 01:55 PM Posted Tuesday at 01:55 PM More a-Bito and less a-Slater. This was kind of foreshadowed when Taylor entered the game Sunday in what had been the spot that they had been a-using Slater.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 02:25 PM Posted Tuesday at 02:25 PM What do we think his role is going to be? I know it will depend on the performance of the three players, but I wonder if we might see a regular starting outfield of Benge, Ewing, and Morabito, with Soto becoming a full-time DH, Taylor a valuable reserve player, and Robert an afterthought? Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 03:05 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:05 PM I think Robert has been Wally Pipped. At least if Ewing keeps this up.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 03:17 PM Posted Tuesday at 03:17 PM Are these three kids Eppler"s ?
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 04:27 PM Posted Tuesday at 04:27 PM I love this kid. About a year ago, I predicted that he would play a game for the Mets before the more highly rated Jett Williams. Can't wait to see him. Later
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 04:29 PM Posted Tuesday at 04:29 PM Morabito was drafted in 2022 and Ewing in 2023, under Eppler’s tenure. Both drafted out of high school. Benge was drafted in 2024 under Stearns’ tenure, out of college. The Hot Corner 1
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 05:20 PM Posted Tuesday at 05:20 PM Morabito has been a slow grind to AAA I'm guessing Luis Robert will have back surgery
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Tuesday at 05:50 PM Posted Tuesday at 05:50 PM It's looked like he had a pretty standard progression to me. Like Ewing, he hasn't shown much power, but his on-base/speed/defense combo is more exciting than power from where I sit. Two added Ewing-based boni: As Ewing is no longer the new kid, it kind of takes the pressure off of him, sort of how Ewing's arrival may or may not have taken some of the weight off of Benge. And if they want to move AJ to the top of the lineup, they can do it without it being a thing. Morabito joining the team and batting seventh or eighth would be the bigger deal. Thornton and Duarte draw some of that new-kid attention away also. With four of their five outfielders capable of playing a better-than-decent center, it provides more room perhaps to get an occasional look at Ewing at second. Both he and Ewing come with a 70 run tool, and Benge probably isn't far behind, so it could potentially be a lot of fun to watch. MFS62 1

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 06:09 PM Posted Tuesday at 06:09 PM If nothing else the Mets have some young guys who run like the wind
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 07:19 PM Posted Tuesday at 07:19 PM Ewing bats lefty Morabito right MLB Prospects Grades Hit 45 Power 35 Run 70 Field 55 Overall 45 They describe him as "an absolute speedster" MFS62 1

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 09:55 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 09:55 PM I kinda love these new OKAY LET'S JUST EFFIN GO Mets. Rip off the bandaid. Make us love you, Stearns. LET'S EFFIN GO.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Tuesday at 09:55 PM Posted Tuesday at 09:55 PM The best part is that it is happening near the start of a road trip. If they sprung it on people at a home game, the toilets would clog from all the 60-year-old white guys taking angry shits, and they might take it out on the player. Here, it happens on the road, and hopefully by the time the team gets back home, he has a handful of games under his belt, maybe a few hits, and maybe a stolen base or two. Howie Rose won't even be calling the game to make a note of it and the Mets' other two radio broadcasters are too young to even remember Carter. It would have been easier if they stuck it on the back of an Austin Slater or Andy Ibáñez first, though.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 09:57 PM Posted Tuesday at 09:57 PM This triple OF call-up [Benge, Ewing, Morabito] within barely more than 1/4 season window lends logic (you can decide on your own if logic = justification) to the idea of cutting ties with Nimmo's contract prior to his value falling due to the Mets running out of room to use him. seawolf17 1
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 10:37 PM Author Posted Tuesday at 10:37 PM Ah, fuck that. Let him keep it. This is stupid.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 10:39 PM Posted Tuesday at 10:39 PM How does this happen and then this happens ? Makes no sense
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 11:02 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:02 PM It's not clear from the Puma tweet whether Morabito requested a change ("was given #8 by the Mets" but maybe wants something else) or if someone on the Mets issued it before a higher-up had a stroke and then sprang into action to put the kibosh on it ... but just a bit too late for tonight's game.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 11:13 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:13 PM If this is Stearns' plan B I like it It should be exciting
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted Tuesday at 11:26 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:26 PM From a NY Post article Rose, once finding out about Morabito getting a different number then posted about a similar situation that occurred 36 years ago. When Kelvin Torve played his first game for the Mets in 1990, he was given No. 24, which had been unofficially retired by former owner Joan Whitney Payson to honor Willie Mays. Torve’s number was shortly thereafter changed to No. 39. The Mets officially retired 24 in 2022.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted Tuesday at 11:27 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:27 PM He looked like such and intelligent young man who'd want to buy an eight. I blame Puma and Howie Rose. They should have kept their cool.
