Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 18 Posted April 18 It's not really a side effect, because I don't know it's particularly irrational, but ... I'm really starting to actively dislike Francisco Lindor. I don't like him at bat. I don't like him in the field. I don't like him on the bases, on the occasions when that happens. I don't like how he's carrying himself. I don't like the body language. I don't like the mental errors. I don't like "My Girl." I don't like The Temptations. Some of this has to be exaggerated, right? They're losing so I am inflating negligible things. Or maybe I ignored more substantial stuff in prior times. I don't know. At this point, with all the player loss and player dumping this offseason, about 75-80% of the identity of the franchise that rests on the players rests on him. (At least, with Soto out.) So that's not good. I have adored watching Lindor throughout his Mets career, during good and bad periods, and suddenly, I have an aversion to the guy. How much of that is projection and/or scapegoating, I do not know. I am too close to the subject (me) to be objective. (I'm still kind of crazy about his wife and kids, though.)

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 19 Posted April 19 I like Lindor. As bad as he’s played he’s the least of the Mets problems. I believe he and Soto and Bichette will be good when all is said and done. I don’t think you can say that about anyone else in the lineup. The biggest side effect of losing is questioning what exactly is wrong with this organization. On the surface you can look at an entire lineup of underperforming guys and blame them. But when it’s a different year, with many different players, a completely different coaching staff, you have to wonder what is going on in this front office and why there is so much failure year after year. Lindor has a history of getting his head up his ass when he's uncomfortable, and I can see why he dpesn't like Soto. He's robotic and ill at ease, possesses nothing of the marks of a marketable superstar--plus I strongly suspect he's on steroids. You do too. Hes worthless to us on the bench having leg injuries. His legs are ginormous and he's hurting them? He's an overtrainer. Not a good fielder. Here for 15 long years.

The Hot Corner Old-Timey Member Posted April 20 Posted April 20 I am quickly losing interest in this team. They are not at all fun to watch. I have better ways to waste my time, than watch this collection of underachievers and has beens. I miss having players that I "knew". Win or lose, and the last half of 2025 was a lot of losing, but I still enjoyed watching the Mets. I just don't relate to this team. I'm sure winning would help, but they are essentially "strangers" to me. metirish and whippoorwill 2

Despite the jokes about "rooting for laundry" a fan's interest relies on a sense of continuity from season to season. There are always changes, and the team evolves from Tom Seaver to Lee Mazzilli to Darryl Strawberry to Bobby Bonilla to Mike Piazza to David Wright to Jacob deGrom etc. But sudden wholesale changes definitely lead to a feeling of disconnect. Especially since some of the more prominent players this year are likely to be short-term transients, like Robert and Polanco. And likely Peralta and Bichette as well. We could focus on the younger players with many years as Mets ahead of them (McLean, Alvarez, Benge, Baty, Vientos) but some of them are likely to go for the next one-year veteran rental. I'm suspecting my games watched is going to be low even in comparison to other years. every night game involves me being awake at 00.05 or so which is tricky enough at the best of times. I am a Lindor fan as well, but I wish he wasn't such a horrendously slow starter most years.

(Especially since he's practically the only remaining player I recognize.) Also, I found that I missed collecting tabloid covers, so I started doing it again. But don't jump to any conclusions! The Stockholm office has shut down and the TCD Department has been laid off. The saturation really brings out the royal in the royal blue, even if the three-quarter framing and the word RELIEF right in front of his crotch add to the effect that Weaver is emptying a bursting bladder. I suspect I tend to vote for a lot of Daily News covers because of the color saturation, especially in night-game shots.
