A potential breakthrough year 2024 turned out to be a lost season, and now the team's former top prospect is flying below the radar.

But hey, that can be a good place to fly, right? With the guns pointed at other guys, Ronny can show the form that made him a winter league MVP. Or maybe the form that made him a winter league casualty. Could go either way, right?

Kind of working in his favor is that the two guys most immediately threatening to overtake him — Luisangel Acuña and Jett Williams — both suffered setbacks of their own, through regression and injury, respectively. So Ronny can still make his mark, and his fast hands and explosive bat speed are still his calling card.

Will you pick up that card? And if you do, what will you write on the back?

I temper my expectations with almost any prospect but his guy was absolutely explosive when he arrived.

If he gets a chance, he will do damage. And have a ****** obp

I expect to get a lot of Mauricio viewing time this year here in Syracuse and I'm pretty happy about that. I don't see a path for him to acquire a lot of MLB at bats, barring multiple players getting hurt.

One edge he has over other potential call-ups (once healthy) is that he is a switch hitter.

Another is that he has power from both sides of the plate.

And when he does get healthy and gets called up (July) he will continue to show his power stroke.

.250- 14-48 playing second, third and some DH.

I can see him pushing Marte aside and becoming the right-handed DH. And maybe pushing Winker aside as well and becoming a full-time DH.

I'm pretty sure Marte isn't going to keep the job for the whole season. I'm not even sure he'll still be on the roster by June 1. Somebody is going to replace him, and I think Mauricio may be a leading contender to do that.

78 games, 184 ABs, .229 BA. The Mets will ditch him before long, as has been their wont with many a top prospect (Milledge was gone at 22, Fernando Martinez at 22, Alex Escobar at 22 ........ etc.).

Per DiComo

Ronny Mauricio (recovery from multiple knee surgeries) will not appear in spring games and will not start the season on time. This isn't a setback, Carlos Mendoza said. The Mets are simply taking Mauricio along slowly.

Well, that is news to Mets Roster Central, but as (a) he hadn't yet appeared, and (B) Carlos Mendoza had treated Jeff McNeil's injury as a pretty dramatic turn for the team, we were about to remove him from the projected roster anyhow.

Mauricio gives off massive Dilson Herrera vibes for some reason. Supposed to be a big piece then just gone. That's what I'm getting from Mauricio.

I don't see feel you are getting your vibes from. Nor do I recall when Dilson Herrera was ever a particularly big piece. He had a moment, and God bless him for it, but he was acquired by the Mets as they were dumping off an outfielder that a team hoped had a few drops of juice left him, and sold off when the Mets were grabbing an outfielder that they hoped had a few drops of juice in him.

Do you remember who that was according to?

Here is MLB's top 100 going into 2015, and it includes a lot of Mets prospects — Syndergaard (#10), Kevin Plawecki (#63), Steven Matz (#66), Brandon Nimmo (#72), and Michael Conforto (#82) — but no Dilly.

Ronny Mauricio. The Mets starting DH for the post-season. Our starting 3B next year, pushing Vientos to 1B.

WOW! those guys all made the majors. Good drafting.

Rafael Montero is pitching in relief for Houston against the Mets tonight.

Was Montero ever highly rated (Mets top 10) in those years?

He's made a pretty long career for himself after coming back from injury. I hope Mauricio can do the same.
