Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 6 Author Posted October 6 Yanx now have 4 errors, should have 5, could have 6. I'm no expert on these things but I think that's a lot for 5 innings. Tampa has 8 hits, one walk, and 4 reached on errors, that's 13 baserunners and only 15 outs ... in a Schlittler game!!
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 6 Posted October 6 I can’t believe Paul Blackburn is good for the Yankees. That alone makes me hate baseball.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 6 Posted October 6 Not done yet. But I will hate the 2026 season a little less if Tampa knocks out the Rays.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 8 Posted October 8 The early hook on the starter that was cruising. I’m sure it will work this time.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted October 8 Posted October 8 do fan interference rules just not simply fucking apply in yankee stadium? what teh actual fuck, we have to go into metaphysical existentialism to decide that a ball that was about to drop into a fielders glove wasn't really catchable after all, because he would've had to do a great job to complete the play? it's not like the outfielder was ten feet away. he was right under the ball. maybe it misses his glove by an inch...? two? the problem is we'll never fucking know because some goddamned goombah reached over hte fence and helped his fucking team. again. Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Spectator interference needs to result in an out for the batter and an ejection for the fan. Marshmallowmilkshake 1
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Now we just need a sweep of the Dodgers. Centerfield 1
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted October 8 Posted October 8 And THAT was a glorious game!
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 8 Posted October 8 This will be a day long remembered. It has already seen the end of the Braves….
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Will be hilarious when the owners insist that small market teams have no chance without a salary cap coming off a Tampa Milwaukee World Series.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8 Posted October 8 The important thing is that the MFY season has ended. whippoorwill 1
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Well this is glorious, and to see Yankees fan interference only makes it better whippoorwill and MFS62 2

I think they got the call (mostly) right. Yes, it's somewhat subjective to determine if the OF would have/could have caught the ball. But you have to make judgement calls sometimes and this one was simply too high on the wall to be caught (another inch or two and that's being ruled a HR). Not quite sure, though, how you award the batter a double but then at the same time determine that the runner scores from 1st. that's a bit too much imagination for me considering that the ball was out of play so it's not like you can factor how much it rebounded off the wall, etc. And if we want to go straight to ANY interference resulting in the batter out then fine, although that opens the possibility of a fan intentionally interfering with a live ball in order to get a desired outcome. And then in Milwaukee, just a few hours after the YSIII incident, there's this Dairy Bartman wannabe about to jostle his own OFer's HR-saving glove from three seats over. It is nice to see that at least the guy who interfered was ejected, as opposed to being celebrated then feted at City Hall by the Mayor and gifted front row seats for the next game as has happened in the past. Even those two guys who essentially assaulted Mookie Betts a couple years back got off easy at first. The MFY's initial reaction was to eject them for the rest of that game but allow them back in the next night. It wasn't until MLB stepped in that the Yanx said; 'Oh yeah, Lifetime Banishment, that's what we meant to say in the first place'. Maybe they're at least starting to learn a lesson and letting go of the idea that punishment depends on whether or not the interference helped or hurt the home team.
whippoorwill Old-Timey Member Posted October 8 Posted October 8 I think the guy in the yellow is a Padre fan i guess it’s human instinct to try to catch a ball MFS62 1
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Even just reducing that call to a double is meaningful. Too late for Armando Benitez and Tony Tarasco and Davey Johnson, sadly.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Here’s an idea. Require that there be some minimum space between the fence and the first row of seats so you don’t get fan interference anymore.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 8 Author Posted October 8 3 hours ago, whippoorwill said: I think the guy in the yellow is a Padre fan Oh yeah. I forgot this game was in SD and both teams have yellow. But we can still use it as an example anyway: if that ball was gloved by a fan then Shirley an out would have been called given the position of the fielder and the ball at the time. Quote Too late for Armando Benitez and Tony Tarasco and Davey Johnson, sadly. The RF ump who made that call eventually admitted that he blew it but then also said he would NOT have ruled it an out but rather a double which is a less wrong call than his first botched one but still a botch. Tarasco was virtually camped under the ball which was never clearing the fence until Maier stuck basically his entire arm into the field of play (a child's arm for sure but still) and the ball rolled up his arm* and into the first row. * so despite what is said and written almost universally, he did not catch the ball. He muffed it and eventually picked it up off the ground (or someone did so and handed it to him).
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 8 Author Posted October 8 btw, the dork from last night didn't catch the ball either. It also hit the heels of his hands and rolled up his arms into the stands, iow, he catches just as well as an 8 y/o. The difference last night is that the fielder's glove was a good foot and a half below the ball so he wasn't coming close to catching it. It was closer to going over the fence but was going to be short there too.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 8 Posted October 8 As someone who virtually never sees the Rays play, I have to ask — how awesome a fielder is their shortstop, Taylor Walls? Because he somehow put up 3.5 bWAR with a .607 OPS and did it while appearing in only 124 games. Those are, like, Juan Lagares numbers.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Max Fried son: hey dad. So how did you pitch that night you skipped my birth?
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 8 Posted October 8 Why are fans so close to the wall as to reach? Every human instinct says catch it! See ya skanks MFS62 1
