I was able to watch the end of yesterday's game. A really nice win against a very good team in a season where there haven't been many of those. On the other hand, I have watched quite a bit of the Royals this season, and they're a very bad baseball team.

The good news from the last two games vs Atlanta is that the bullpen allowed nine runs after the 8th inning in the two games: six in the 9th on Monday, then two in the 9th plus one in the 10th on Tuesday ... and yet we won both games. Not that I'm recommending that as a winning formula.

Mets have a record one game better than KC and for similar reasons: Royals are 20th in RS/G (Mets = 27th) and 24th best in RA/G (Mets = 19th)

Mets are slowly improving, I guess. Their team OBP is above .300 for the first time in what seems like forever and they now have multiple active guys with averages at or over .250 ... Soto, Bichette, Ewing, Benge and Alvarez.

Good call! They have DFA'd Zuniga and called up Matt Seelinger. It'll be a feel good story for Seelinger, as he is a 31-year-old rookie making his debut.

Doesn't matter. Over the years we've seen the Mets play to the level of the opposition - toe-to-toe against a good team like the Braves and then stink against bad teams. I'm not too confident going into this series.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, but good for Seelinger.  I hope he gets in and does well, before he inevitably becomes the next reliever sent back down in the bullpen churn.

The only Little League HR I saw worse than that was one that started in similar fashion by Tommy John. The difference in that one was that John made all three errors himself.

IIRC, John fumbled the pick-up, then threw it away, only to later throw away a relay throw. Since we know he reads here, I command Gary to give us the details later in the game.

The weird part was that Caglianone seemed to throw that ball exactly where he wanted — which was absolutely nowhere.

Wow, that was embarrassingly bad defense.  

Benge hits it all of 10-12 feet.  Lugo fields it and throws it in the dirt at first (E-1).  First baseman retrieves the ball and, best I can figure, throws it to the 3rd base dugout (E-3).  Then it is retrieved and promptly thrown away to allow Benge to circle the bases.  The level of defensive play I have observed while watching Mets games is embarrassing for professionals.  There have of course been some truly stunning plays, but the number of routine and  easier plays that are botched is mind boggling.

I like to think that defensive disaster by the Royals took the monkey off the Mets' back.

Especially since the Mets had almost the same exact play to start off the next inning, and Senga bounced the ball, but Young deftly and coolly picked the long hop.
