Milwaukee, winners of eight of their last ten, are as hot as the Mets are cold, giving them a near identical record (47–37, a half game behind the Mets in the overall standings).

In fact, righthander Freddy Peralta faces off against Clay Holmes with a remarkably similar line (8-4 / 2.90 / 93 innings, versus 8–4 / 2.97 / 88 innings).

Peralta has been viciously effective against the Mets across his career, going 3–0 in three starts and holding Mets batters to a .138 / .219 /.276 // .495 line, pretty much turning them into a lineup of Jacob deGroms, except none of them get to pitch.

Can't think of a better situation to turn the page.

Also, there is the matter of the Mets having taken the 2024 NLWCS two games to one last October, rallying from behind in the deciding game with four runs in the ninth, three of them on a go-ahead homer by Pete Alonso, followed by David Peterson taking the hill in the bottom of the inning for his only career save.

The Mets have heroes everywhere.

Really?

Nary a drop here. And we're only about 60 miles away.

Been warm and sunny all day.

Nasty thunderstorm rolled though Manhattan a little while ago.

Split doubleheader tomorrow, 1:10 first game and 7:10 second game (as originally scheduled).

So here's the question. Why?

Is it all just random? Why were the Mets, who were terrible with RISP through May, also terrible in June?

Since we never got a game, and the Brewers never even got around to posting a lineup, here are the lineups for the Mets game on this date in [CROSSOUT]1977[/CROSSOUT] 1997.

The Mets would come up on the https://leaptoad.com/mets/gamedetail.php?gameno=5662wrong end of the score on this day, losing to a Marlin team who would become one of the strangest world champions by prevailing in one of the most boring World Series. The future champs . that day would field four future Mets in the starting lineup, one former Met, and a guy that was both at the same time. An additional pair of future Mets would come off the bench that day in the form of Luis Castillo and Dennis Cook.

The Mets were still steadfastly committed to Carlos Baerga at this point. Lance Johnson, on the other hand, would be gone a little over a month later, sent to Cubs in a challenge trade for Brian McRae. Was that deal done, in part, to get #1 back onto the back of Mets coach Mookie Wilson? The answer remains a mystery.

Shawn Gilbert coming off the bench to provide a pinch-hit homer — his only homerun as a Met — was the main highlight for the home team.

That the Marlins won 17 the WS years prior to being expanded into MLB was the reason they were such a strange champion.

How could they win 17 years before they existed, or did I read that incorrectly?

I have to blame some evil autocorrect for that one.

Did you mean to say "after"?
