Somehow Severino will only be 31 years old next season. So this deal takes him through 33.



It's more than what was projected, but I would have had no issue with the Mets giving him this deal.

I remember Game Two of the NLCS. In the second inning, the Mets opened up the offense, laying out five runs, featuring a Mark Vientos grand slam.



He gets back to the dugout and poses for the required OMG! photo, and Ben Grimm notices that Severino ain't there. Whatever mojo you may or may not have believed was linked to the OMG! prop and the accompanying poses, Severino had been at the center of it — the "lead hype man," according to Gwreck above. Now, at perhaps the OMG!-iest point in the season, he was absent. He had clearly been sent to New York to prepare for Game Three, and that made all the sense in the world, until you spotted his absence in that moment.



Even more than any un-necessary messing with the karma, it had absented him from any psychological boost he might get from being with his teammates during their 7-3 road beatdown of the eventual champions.



Or maybe it meant nothing. Probably it meant nothing. But that's not what I was thinking as the Dodgers turned Game Three into an absolute punking of an 8-0 victory, from which they never looked back on the road to their championship.

So I was trying to figure out the rationale behind this move. The A's are clearly not in a "win now" mode, nor do I realistically think they will be at any point during Severino's contract. I'm guessing they felt that with Severino might help them get hot and maybe contend for a WC. And if they struggle, will probably have some trade value.

I loved how he blossomed into such a big personality once freed from the Bronx. Teammates all loved him, seemed like. Dressed well. Pitched pretty good. Too bad he can't stay.

Enjoyed watching him pitch. For most of the season he was on point and looked good up there. Good luck to the man on his career as a Sackthletic

He got more than Kikuchi, and Kikuchi didn't cost the Angels a pick. Honestly, I'll take the draft pick at that price. But I will also thank Severino for significant contributions to this past year's team.

As I had posted earlier in the season, when the Mets signed him, a lot of MFY fans were saying they were glad he left because he wasn't dependable.

So, I was leery of him.

But after watching him, it was clear that that was just sour grapes.

If the Mets re-signed him, it would have been a good move.

Given the contracts that have been issued since this deal, I feel even more strongly that the Mets should have done this deal with Severino.

I imagine they have a plan. It may not be the right plan, but for all I know, they already have Roki Sasaki wrapped up.
