As the deadline approaches, some notable deals are happening:

Reliever AJ Puk goes from Miami to NL pennant winner and wildcard contender Arizona for a pair of mid-level prospects.

Tamps Bay sends Randy Arozarena---who would've looked good in Mets colors--to Seattle, a team they trail by half a game in the standings--for the #14 and #15 prospects in the Mariner system.

I commented on those in the TWiB thread, but the deadline deals need their own spot.

I thought the Mariners did a good job of buying low. I wanted Puk, but the main guy the Marlins got has 28 homers between AA and AAA and has been described as having as much raw power as anybody in the minors. He could help the Marlins right now.

What areas to you think they most need to fill? Relievers and an outfielder?

I don't know if Marte will stay healthy, so they probably want someone better than DJ Stewart for when the inevitable issue flares up.

The pen obviously needed help before Nunez got hurt. Curious which propsects they are willing to give up.

It's the pen, first and foremost. I think you stick with rentals, because I am not comfortable at all with what the Marlins got for Puk and the Nats got for Hunter Harvey.

An outfielder would depend on the price.

I know moving Baty would be selling while his value is low. But I wonder if a package of him and a mid-level prospect would entice a bottom feeder. He didn't meet our expectations, but I could see a team in a non-pressure situation throwing him out there every day and let him find a groove. Some of these sellers are going to need bodies on the ML roster once they start sending people out. Kind of like the people we were pushing out there last year.

Dodger pitcher James Paxton goes to the Red Sox for Moises Bolivar, an infielder who turned 17 this month

Strange with all the injuries in LA

Yeah, the Dodgers dealing pitching is strange.

Paxton was DFA a few days ago.

I think I read that Clayton Kershaw just got off the IL.

TBR continue to deal off vets, even within their division, this time sending Zach Eflin to Baltimore

ex-Phil Eflin, 30, is under contract thru 2025 so more than just a rental. Three prospects headed to Tampa Bay.

Before dealing Ryne Stanek to us, the Mariners picked up Yimi Garcia from the Blue Jays. Garcia is an elite set-up guy with a 2.60 ERA and a 0.80 WHIP.

Jonatan Clase was the primary return. Clase was the #10 prospect, and has fourth OF/platoon DH upside unless he can cut down the strikeouts. I may have tried to beat this one.

TB 3B Isaac Paredes (2024 All Star, back of ballot MVP votes in '23) to the Cubs in exchange for ... I dunno, other people most likely.

Tampa Bay, four games out of the final WC slot, continues to sell off because, y'know, they're Tampa Bay.

Christopher Morel the headliner in the return for Paredes in a change-of-scenery challenge trade for 3B men

I wouldn't be at all surprised (or disappointed, depending on the return of course) to see Baty traded.

Howie talked about this a bit on today's radio broadcast. He suggested that players drafted by the previous regime, such as BB, might be more likely to be dealt, given the current FO's inheritance of them as opposed to hand selected draftees/prospects.

Dodgers get Michael Kopech from White Sox and Tommy Edman from Cardinals

Cardinals get Tommy Pham and Eric Fedde from White Sox

White Sox get prospects

Mets were apparently in on Kopech and Fedde talks, Some Guy on the Internet says.

Jack Flaherty pulled from scheduled start in Detroit tonight

Keith mentioned that on air yesterday

White Sox have traded Tommy Pham Michael Kopech and Eric Fedde today

Fedde has been lights out since returning from Korea
