Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 Somebody has to get tapped, and until quite recently, it didn't look like anybody was interested in stepping up. Still though, the choice is not obvious.Still though, somebody's got to go.[FIMG=350]https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-images/image/private/t_16x9/t_w1024/mlb/pw4us5u32aaljesv1u9t[/FIMG] [FIMG=350]https://www.sportsnet.ca/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/mets_allstar640.jpg[/FIMG][FIMG=350]https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-images/image/private/t_16x9/t_w1024/mlb/i2rarndb1gqrcntwmeiw[/FIMG] [FIMG=350]https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQKbFpqYJmyfX-Icl5YYcXMsUokm46--9lNCQ&s[/FIMG][FIMG=350]https://img.mlbstatic.com/mlb-images/image/upload/t_2x1/t_w1536/mlb/k6iyooss60yxqkuhjj0d.jpg[/FIMG] [FIMG=350]https://miro.medium.com/v2/resize:fit:1200/1*mzrZO5BCe1tj40dWGFAZsg.png[/FIMG][FIMG=375]https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FYD_H6VXgAA1xqc.jpg[/FIMG] [FIMG=325]https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81zUaoY5VhL._AC_UF1000,1000_QL80_.jpg[/FIMG]
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 Lindor despite hitting below 200 for 6 weeks looks like the MetVP to me.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 Some of the others have had ups and downs, but Marte has been consistent. Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 6, 2024 Author Posted June 6, 2024 What makes this additionally difficult is that offense is down across the league, and Mets offensive stat lines that seem farcical when considered as an All Star profile may look a little stronger when considered alongside their peers.
Bob Alpacadaca Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 They'll want Pete for the Home Run Derby.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 A player doesn't have to be selected to the All-Star team to participate in the HR Derby.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 6, 2024 Author Posted June 6, 2024 I'm the only Baderbooster. That's OK, I guess, as I've probably mentally changed my vote three times since then.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 Severino/Manea seem like the best ones to me, but watch theMets get just one pitcher and he is pitching somewhere else by the time the game is played
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2024 Posted June 6, 2024 This is like choosing between cow dung and horse shit.Offense has no one that's even close. Alonso might get it because he's a name player with all the home runs. Vientos and Martinez haven't been with them long enough, but they'd be obvious choices if they had a to-date full season under them so far.Garrett could have been if he kept it up, but his predicable collapse happened so that's a no.Severino is the only one that I can look at and comfortably say 'yes' to, so he gets my vote.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted June 7, 2024 Posted June 7, 2024 lindor is our best player. 4th best SS in the league per fWAR, at 2.2 just a shade behind adames at 2.3, with elly de la soul at 2.6 and mookie at 3.5nimmo, per fWAR, is the 3rd best OF in the league at 1.5, with tatis at 2.1 and profar at 2.4.severino sits at 19th best pitcher, with 1.1 fWAR. he's sandwiched between mitch keller and jared jones.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 7, 2024 Author Posted June 7, 2024 Mitch Keller and Jared Jones star this fall in Donovan and Harbaugh!Donovan and Harbaugh! They know how to work the toughest streets because they're from the toughest streets![FIMG=500]https://i.imgur.com/McxfPJO.jpeg[/FIMG]

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Mets maintain low-as-hell profile in ASG voting. Click on tweet to see full tables.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 17, 2024 Author Posted June 17, 2024 The fun part, though, is that, as dubious as the listed candidacies above were, they seem to be improving at similar rates, making the competition heated for the right reason, instead of the wrong one.I'm editing the post to allow vote changing. J.D. Martinez was a pretty questionable candidate when this poll was created, but not so much anymore.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Can I change my vote in our poll? Things have changed over time.Later

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 I picked SeverinoThey'll take the good arm over some other meh choices
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Martinez is playing like an All-Star, but doesn't have the statistical padding, yet, but I might change my vote later on.Severino still gets my support for now. I think the Mets could actually have more than one representative this season, Martinez and Severino, so it might be worth changing this poll to multiple choice.Marte is actually putting up numbers that might legitimize a selection, as well, but he hasn't been particularly flashy about it, so he's kind of gone under the radar. We'll see what his numbers look like at the All-Star break, too.So, my choices right now, in order, would be Severino, Martinez, Marte. Also, Lindor is currently on pace for another 25-25 season, so if he surges, he could have a case.Though I've been thrown into the pits of despair with this club, I still have the inkling that they are better than they've performed to date.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 (edited) Current NL rankings...Alvarez 8th at CAlonso 4th at 1BLindor 7th at SSMartinez 7th at DHMarte 18th in OF Edited June 24, 2024 by Guest
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted June 24, 2024 Author Posted June 24, 2024 Lindor is sure looking like our best candidate at the moment, though.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 Pete Alonso is your sole 2024 Mets All-Star, pending injury replacement mishegas.
Cowtipper Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 Well, I can't vote Severino anymore as he is pedestrian all of a sudden. Martinez fell off a bit. So, I've switched my vote to ...Francisco Lindor.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 7, 2024 Author Posted July 7, 2024 Way back when Alonso, Nimmo, McNelson, were all hitting in the .210s, Lindor was lowest of them all, below .200, but he has passed them all to climb up to .250 just ahead of Alonso and Nimmo.McNickles, on the other hand, hasn't moved that needle at all.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted July 7, 2024 Posted July 7, 2024 Good for Pete. I was hoping for Nimmo to get a shot, and I think Lindor deserves it, too. Isn't Betts out? Maybe Lindor can take his place.
