So, we have all seen him, he definitely brings some color to the broadcast, anyway as his legend builds Andy Martino calls it out as problematic

Manhattan comedian Max Wiener is the guy. I should note that the moniker "Rally Pimp " wasn't his , fans started calling him that

Right , it's a bit of fun, Martino went on to say it is " racist and cultural appropriation , quite the combo"

That statement seems very odd to me

Is the pimp more underworld than the protagonist of "Narco"?

Irony is fun in the micro, but it becomes problematic when it sneaks into mass culture, so it's maybe a conversation better had now, before this guy becomes tired but institutionalized.

I don't know. Is there an "I don't know" selection?

That guy's great. Problem? What's the problem? Here's an idea: Let's all buy a gazillion Snoop Dogg records and make him out to be a toally assimilated superduperstar with major corporate sponsors and a seat at the table and hero to millions.

Oh my. Some guy cheering on the Mets in tacky garish outfits is a problem. I'm hysterical.

Martino is right. Pimps are bad people who abuse women. They are not something we should be glorifying. We wouldn't celebrate a Rally Drug Dealer. He can wear whatever he wants, like any other fan. But we should not celebrate this.

You know what's a problem? That lame ass guy in the right field corner who's been doing a pathetic sign-man Karl Erhardt imitation for like 20 or 30 years with his lame ass 'We Believe" sign. How creative.

We should blame him for all the pimps in the world and then chop his head off. I agree with your entire post but the last sentence and have no idea what your post has to do with the new Mets rally guy.

I'm just finding out NOW!!! that the guy is called Rally Pimp. It didn't

even occur to me he was dressed like an early 70's movie pimp stereotype.

I just thought he was being a flamboyant assclown or something.

I think -- but am not sure -- "rally pimp" was a name given to this fella by the fans and not named as such himself. he could just have a thing for feathered coats. He could call himself "Disco Max" and probably be done with it.

But like I said before fans rudely shitting on Tracksuit for bringing this up are worse for the Mets' image than the "pimp" himself.

Hadn't seen this person before reading this thread.

But from that picture, my first impression was of Sylvester Stallone in disguise in the movie Nighthawks".

And for all we know he could be a good pimp. Ya know - nice to his stable,

five-day work weeks, medical and dental, paid holidays and a 401K plan!

Kinda reminded me of Billy Squier years ago but less gay looking.

Andy Martino is a waste of connective tissue. Thanks for telling us you're "right about this," I'd have never known otherwise.

This was my takeaway.

Being a game above .500 isn't really bringing out our best.

Don't love the word “pimp” getting play, but the dude seems harmless. Hasn't yet lost its charm a la the Diesel Donnie Stevenson shtick of 2021.

No one objects to the term “pimping” a home run.

Maybe the word has evolved from its original meaning to now being a synonym for flamboyant.

I object to Martino more than I object to this guy.

He is not holding himself out to be a real pimp anymore than the Seinfeld soup shop owner is held out to be a real Nazi.

Get over yourself, Martino

It totally has. And does anyone really think that using the word 'Pimp' means you're in favor or even indifferent to abuse of women?

That's overthinking things by a lot IMO.
