I'd bet they were planning for such a possibility. This wasnt sprung on Diaz 15 minutes ago. I like it. But ideally, deGrom would've pitched at least one more inning. In a situation like this, I think the strategy should be to go with your best reliever. If he has to be replaced, then go with your next best. You have to play these innings like its sudden death.
