Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Max is back, or so the interwebs tell me. He's pitching against someone and as long as that someone isn't Jacob DeGrom, I again like our chances.

TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 I'll be in the crowd rooting at Max's return and for a playoff clinching win.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Interesting philosophical question: should there be a celebration for clinching a playoff spot? Or should the Mets wait to celebrate until the division is clinched?

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Related question: With new roster rules and DH nonsense keeping benches short even until September, will celebrations be more muted as teams can no longer field a full hangover lineup the next day, or will we see some day-after teams with a half the guys unfit for duty?
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Clink together a single can of beer each in moderate celebration. No spraying of beer permitted.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 I agree. A modest acknowledgement is the way to go.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Hey, come on! No sheet cake?

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 I remember when cinching celebrations were spontaneously rowdy, involving copious quantities of bubbly alcoholic beverages in bottles. Now, with so many levels of clinching before the championship, I guess it has been diluted.Nehi Orange and sheet cake seems to sum the appropriate level of enthusiasm.Whatever the level of enthusiasm, win the game first.Later
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 I'm more of a six-foot Italian combo sub guy than a sheet cake guy. Nicely seasoned red wine vinegar and oil and some hot cherry pepper slices on the side please. No onion that time of night, I'll have nightmares.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 This continues the tour of Daniel Vogelbach's former teams. Vogelbach once hit a walkoff pinch-hit grand slam as a Brewer. Walkoff, pinch-hit, grand slam. The only things that could make that sweeter would be if (a) there were two outs, and ( the Brews were down by three.Oh, wait. They were down by three. Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Did they change it? MLB.com says 7:40 Eastern.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 But the Brewers' website says 7:40 Central.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 19, 2022 Posted September 19, 2022 Yeah, it's 7:40. Just a typo on my part whilst I was seeking to INform peeps not to assume an 8:10 start and wound up MISinforming them instead. Not the first time, won't be the last.Back to that Vogelbach/Reyes GSSeeing a clip like that reminds me of the old Armando wars on the MoFo when many of the critters there (as well as a fair number of baseball fans in general) insisted that only OUR closers blew saves in gut-kick fashion. After all, if a save falls in the forest but you're not there to feel the gut-kick, can we be sure that it even happened?

It will show in the next day's box scores, will be counted in baseball-reference and discussed endlessly (about whether there is something called clutch or choke) wherever baseball fans meet. There are no box scores in the forest.Later
